Keepin my hat on.

Yup, it's official.  No more shows, save the one local fiber show I like.
Business is good, and I don't have to do them.
I am convinced.
Enough already.

Well, it is pretty official.  Bubbalee has had her babies.  We didn't see her Saturday at all, and then on Sunday when she showed up, she looked thinner.  And she ate, and went right back across the road to her hideout.
Today, same scenario.  She did spend a few minutes out in the field behind the barn, but not her usual.  And from the upstairs window, I watched her head for the road.

Let me just say that I am respectful of this road.  The traffic moves quickly, to say the least.
As I watched, she ran back away from the road a couple of times, and eventually made her way across.

Nothing is going to keep this girl from her babies.  I just hope she manages to stay safe.

She is just to the left of the yellow and gray guide wires, and her destination is just to the left of the tree, under the back part of the house, which is actually a shed.

This is what it looks like from the studio.  I ran up to the front bedroom to see  her better.
I just hope she can raise her kittens, and that we can catch them before they get killed in the road.
It seems so hopeless.

I am finally getting my groove with this order.  I guess I wasn't crazy about the color combination, and it took me much trial and error to make it pleasing to my eye.
But I think I have it now.

I have a lot of hats in the shop.  I don't usually put them on my web site.  I guess I should.  Some are felted, some are knitted.

While weaving is my business, and my passion, I have been knitting since the age of 4, and it is a comfort zone I return to often.

Here is the hat pattern I have been knitting lately.  Bulky yarn, heavy hat.

I think I love to knit hats because I can finish one in an evening, and I don't have to remember where I am or what I was doing. It is also a chance to play with color and texture time after time.

It is also a chance to use up bits of leftover yarn.  And I love that.

Love the colors in the pink hat... I can't wear that style but the color is so cheery.

Hope mama kitty and babies stay safe.... Is there an animal rescue in your area that would come get the babies out and take them somewhere for adoption?

Way to go, Bubbalee! Can't wait to see those babies. I expect she'll get them to you when they are bigger. I can see her in my mind's eye, carrying them one by one over to a warm safe spot at the studio. Lovely hats!

I hope you can catch the mama and her babies and move them across the street. Maybe you could start a collection at your rug sale site for the care taking of the kittens. Spaying and neutering.

I so enjoy your site.

I hope Bubbalee keeps herself and her wee ones safe and that you can get access to the kittens when the time is right.. and to Mama, as well. It's not hopeless.. difficult.. but never hopeless.

Gosh, I held my breath just reading about her crossing the road! I don't think I could even look at the road each day, worried I might see her squished on the road. ARGGHHH It's so hard to love something that is wild and wants to be free. You want to protect them and keep them safe and from harm, and knowing her babies need to be saved too. Oh, I feel for you!

My three yellow cats were rescued from the wild 13 years ago. I could never catch the mother to spay her and she had a second litter which I rescued and gave away. Then the mama cat was hit on the busy road. We do what we can.

Love that felted hat! Nancy

I hope all the kitties will be safe too. I hate to see them hit on the roads.

I like the colors in your rug and hats.

I do like the colors in that rug. Oddly, I think they're the same as in your third hat.

Welcome to my world.
