Crazy as a Loom

Just for myself.

It rained and rained all day.
Bubbalee is still pregnant.
VERY PREGNANT.

She sat on the table on the porch, and took her morning bath.
Taunting me.
"You can't catch me.  Na na na na na na".

When I am inclined to worry about it, I remind myself that she is FED, and she is not scrounging around to stay nourished, so her chance of having healthy babies must be improved.
And she didn't have them last week, when it was so cold.  It is warmer this week, and that is good.
Besides, I can only help her as much as she will let me.
She is the boss.
Why am I not surprised?

I spent most of the day weaving the warp off a loom, so I can weave an order on it.  Making the rugs I love to make.  Some people call them hit n' miss, but you can call them anything you want.  They are haphazard, catch as catch can.
A little of this, a little of that.
Like life.

I love the adage, " use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without".
Anything that makes life simpler is a good thing.
I loved the book Radical Simplicity: Small Footprints on a Finite Earth by Jim Merkel.

Imagine you are first in line at a potluck buffet. The spread includes not just food and water, but all the materials needed for shelter, clothing, healthcare, and education. How do you know how much to take? How much is enough to leave for your neighbors behind you—not just the six billion people, but the wildlife, and the as-yet-unborn?

It may be a bit much for most of us, but it is certainly a book to get all of us thinking about the way we use our planet.

I am OK with my decision to bypass craft shows.  I am going to try harder to pay attention to what it is that really makes me happy and content on a daily basis. I am going to work harder at NOT browbeating myself into doing what I think I SHOULD do.  Have mercy.
I have a tendency to get 'driven' by whatever task is at hand, and forget about the things I need to stay balanced.  It may take a lifetime to get this right.

When I  watch the news, and read the papers, it is clear to see that I can only do what I can do.  I can only make a difference in my own world, and hope that it matters.

Hi Hilary--seems we are on a similar journey to find that balance. I, too, am thinking or should I say rethinking about craft fairs and doing what I think I should vs. what I love...Balancing health needs vs. financial needs vs. creative needs! Yes to not browbeating--why DO we beat outselves up??? Bubbalee must certainly be due this week--can she get any bigger?? And your rugs, ahhhh, love them all!

I don't think I would bother with craft shows either... Most people seem to look and not buy during these economic times. Just keep doing what you're doing and let them come to you.

We can still change the world...we just need to make our world smaller. That is what I try to do...

I tend to agree with Di - especially in these harder times. With your on-line shop, folks who want to buy will find you...

Love that Bubbalee!!!

She looks like she's ready to pop, and quite content also I might add.
You have given her every chance to be loved, fed and welcomed, by the look on her face, she's aware of this kindness.
Love those rug colors.

Balance is not easy. If we are conscious of what we are doing and are trying our best, that should be enough.

Bubbalee is just so darn cute -

I say you are doing your part to make the world a better place, Hilary - If only we could get everyone to think the same way - each just taking small steps in their own part of the world.

" use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without".
My grandma lived this way. She passed it on to my mom and then to me. Somewhere along the way I got caught up in the "gotta have that" syndrome. I am now working my way back to what grandma taught me.
The last time I went to a show, I bought stuff, but I kept it to a low amount. I also decided not to go to the next show. I'm sorry to those who work to get there, but I have to use up everything I purchased in the last two shows.
Love the colors in the rug. It looks like sunshine.

A lot of the things I see at craft shows in my area are not always real high quality. (I can tell just by looking at your pictures that yours are not in this league.) I think there are many people who are turned off by craft shows, because of the large amounts of "junk". If it works for you then that is what matters!
