Crazy as a Loom

Second thoughts

I never do this.
From october

But today, I got to the studio early, and I hadn't eaten my usual bowl of Kashi Heart to Heart with almond milk. So I was hungry. I had food from the weekend, so I impulsively made myself some eggs.
Oh, dear. I wonder what this means.
Oh well.
My new apprentice arrived.......who will remain nameless unless she chooses otherwise.....and we worked all day on a big rug.
Uh, excuse me, but you're not helping.
From october

What? Are you talking to ME?
From october

I am very sorry, but you have to move.
From october

Finally, finished. 6'x9' with hemmed edges. It is a match for the 4' x 6' I posted recently.
From october

Here is the Toika, ready for the next big rug.
From october

It weaves a 7' width, and has a sectional beam that I put on it.
And I'm thinking of selling it. Yes, I am.
I am giving serious thought to some revamping, getting myself to that sweet spot, where serenity reigns.
In this same vein, I HAVE decided to sell a loom. Just a little downsizing is in order. Seriously.
From october

It is a Reed Weaver's Friend, 2 harness, 45" wide weaving width. It doesn't have any treadles. Two beats of the beater bar changes the shed. It is a heavy and sturdy loom for making rugs.
Part of my reasoning is that I just can't do justice to 13 looms. I have tried, honest. But I think I need to create some simple, restful space. So something needs to go.

From october

Does everyone feel the recurrent need to reinvent themselves? Is it cyclic? hormonal? is it me?
Why is it so hard to stay on track? You figure out where you want to be, you plant yourself there, and then down the road you realize that you wandered off the path. It isn't quite how you thought it would be. For me, it is working myself into a corner. I am good at it.
Oh, yeah.
One day at a time, right?

I think it is cyclical. That is good though, keeps you clear on what you want to do with your space and life. In the past 2 months I have reinvented myself several times, but that is good because now I have the time to do that. My new attitude for myself is "calm" whatever it takes, no more rushing to and fro to meet my crazy expectations of myself. My expectations are now "calm" and that helps me to see what is important in my life.

How long does it take to string one of your looms so it's ready to weave? Is that something you have your assistant do for you?

It is hard sometimes deciding on what has to go. I hope you find someone who will appreciate and use the loom. If I had some cash I would consider it! Oh, I suppose I would need someplace to put it too! (Is 5 looms in one room too many?)

Oh girl - I feel your inner storm. I think it's something that creative people go through often. I always think 'there's a better way, there's a better thing'. Personally - I think downsizing is always good - for me anyhow. That cat is too cute - my cat is ALWAYS up in my way, and I just hate to shoo him off. Gorgeous rugs as always. I have about another week of yard work to do, and then I'm getting up on my loom.

I can't believe that you have 13 looms! I'm trying to find space for my one. The new studio is so packed there is barely room for the loom and I so wanted to be weaving again. I've been trying to thin all my possessions but how can I thin out craft supplies? That is like throwing money away. I need it all for inspiration!

I'm in the mist of a huge downsizing, as the move is pending by the end of the month and I totally understand the shift of space, purpose and mindset. You know once you decided to clear a path and unclutter yourself and surroundings, you'll find a reassuring inner peace that is a great feeling. Good Luck you'll find the path after you take care of the weeds, btw the eggs look delicious.

Hey Hilary you know that book where people sum up their life in six words? Here's my favorite: "Not exactly what I had planned."

You realize that by getting rid of stuff you are just making room for something else to come into your life/studio.

Wonder what will come into your studio now that you have purged some space free?

Welcome to my world.
