Crazy as a Loom

Aaaa-choo

OK, a little tidbit for ya.
I sneeze when I look at the sun. I do. Honest.
It is called Photic Sneeze Reflex, and it is a genetic trait that affects 18-35% of the population.
So my question is............are you in that percentage?

Today I did some weaving. I call this style of rug "the wave rug".
I cut the strips of fabric thin, and wind them together on the shuttle, changing the colors each time.
It is a way of using many colors in a rug without the rug looking striped.

From october

It is one of my favorite rag rugs to weave.

My new helper/apprentice person, whom we shall call "L"......has been working hard.
Cutting jeans, making Hip to Be Square Looper Loom kits, sweeping up, moving selvedge from the attic to the barn loft, and best of all, helping me weave BIG RUGS.
Hallelujah. And she knows EVERYONE in Kingsbury. I am not kidding.
She has found several people to clean loopers for kits, and even people to sew blue jeans.
Oh, my....I may actually get caught up and organized.
Yeehah!!!!
All week long, my dear mother has complained of this pain, and that pain. She told me that she would be in the hospital soon. Several times, I asked her if she wanted me to take her to the ER.....she declined. One night, she actually said, "not now, maybe later" and I knew it was because she was going to watch "Dancing With the Stars".
So I made an appointment for her with her doctor. This morning, as she was getting ready to go to that appointment, I said to her, make sure you tell him all your concerns.
She turned to me, and said....................are you ready???????
"What the hell am I going to the doctor's for, anyway?"
Wine, tranquilizers, a sandy beach on a deserted island, a huge plate of big fat peanut butter cookies, a half gallon of pistachio ice cream.

Are you catching my drift here?

Then the heating experts were at the studio to install one heater here, and another there. But they left for lunch and never came back. Said they had an emergency.
After dinner I realized that I hadn't closed the outside door to the cellar, and that the skunks would be cavorting down there tonight, so back to the studio I went.

So, how was your day????

I'm not one of those that sneeze by looking at the sun - my ex was and he thought I was dumb cause I couldn't bring on a sneeze that was threatening like he could... weird thing to pick on a person about - huh? My day was oh so fun... I'm frantically trying to get some projects done outdoors before it SNOWS next week - that's what they are predicting. I was trying to screw some screws, but I didn't have the right driver bit and do you think anyone in town had the right size???? Of course not. Broke a drill bit - dropped a line of fence panels on myself, couldn't find the lag bolts I bought a couple weeks ago, I could go on, but won't bore you with the details! I'm drinking a red beer now - it's going down too well - I think I'll have another.

That is an interesting fact. I had never heard of it before. I'm not sure if I'm in that percentage because if I have a sneeze that just won't go then looking near the sun usually makes it happen but if I just look at it I don't sneeze.

Oh what a FUN day you've had! Mine? Lazy, actually. My little 5 pound dog was attacked earlier this week, survived surgery, and is home under doctor's orders to "do nothing but sit and watch tv for two weeks." Have you ever tried to tell a 15 month old furry bundle of energy that she has to chill for two weeks? The only way it's happening is for ME to sit and watch tv. Coz every time I get up, SHE gets up. I've fashioned a sling out of her tiny little doggie bed and carry her when I have to go to the bathroom, the laundry room, etc.

I don't know about tomorrow, though - I have to go back to work, and I think the post office might frown on Emma-in-the-sling accompanying me throughout the night.

By the way, my husband and all my in-laws sneeze at the sun. I always thought they were crazy until I learned it was an actual medically documented trait.

They're still crazy, though.

Put me down for one of those who sneeze! I didn't realize there was a name for it, though.

I am a sneezer, too, I hurry and look right at the sun to get the sneeze over with! Had a good weaving day, cleaning and helping the DH put up solar panels for the pool.......

You are so lucky to have found L. And that you remembered the cellar door . . .

My youngest has the sneeze and sun reflex, too. Had it since he was a little boy.

Glad to hear you're getting caught up. And I think the wave rug is beautiful.

I know I used to do that thing with the sun, I don't know if I still do. Then lately around here we haven't had much sun!
L is a gem! How wonderful that you found each other!
Ew...skunks in the cellar...not much fun there!
I like your wave rug.

I'm a sneezer too. I had no idea it was an actual medically documented genetic trait. I learn something new every day!

Sounds like you've found the perfect apprentice. I envy you (and her!)

Holy moley, there's no way I'd look at the sun. That would be an instant migraine. I don't know if I'm a sneezer of not. My day? I watched "To Kill a Mockingbird" for the first time - with my book group since was had just read the book. Great movie!! Robert Duval was a cutie patootie.

Welcome to my world.
