Crazy as a Loom

One step at a time

Sometimes I feel like I am on a slow boat, and the waves keep progress at a minimum.
It's the one good day, one bad day, two good days, one bad day, three good days......you get the picture.
But I am plodding ahead, and I AM getting better, maybe not as fast as I would like.
Some would call me impatient......I can't imagine who would say that.
But I guess it might be true.
I have received compliments though, on my RESTRAINT.   I am being very good at pacing myself, and resting, and listening to my pain level........all things, I might add, that I have not usually been real good at previously.  Ever.
Which all has to do with the level of surgical intervention.
Got my attention, that it did.

Yesterday went for my first day trip since surgery.   My BFF and I went to a farmer's market, where I bought some of the season's last tomatoes, some beets, some cilantro, and some sage-basil pesto.

Then we went to my fave yarn shop,  Cacklin Hens, in Middlebury, Vt.   I admit that in addition to being a loom addict, I am seriously hooked on yarn.
I have tons of it, but it never enough.  I know hope I am knitting for the rest of my life, so I NEED it all.
Then I go into a yarn shop, especially one like Cacklin Hens, and they have so much beautiful yarn, I am a wreck just picking out a couple of things.
Anyway, I have this baby shower coming up, so I bought this sweet pattern.

And it's gonna be in blues.

It was a cloudy/rainy day.  The leaves are beginning to turn colors.

It felt so good to be out with my BFF, doing normal things.
(little voice saying thank you, thank you, thank you)
Sharing a dessert.  Laughing.  Just feeling ok.

What am I going to do with my one wild and precious life???
Since my surgery, that is the only question I have.
But one, you can bet, that I will be embracing.

Nothing like time with your BFF to help heal your soul! Your body will catch up. ;)

How nice for you, just to have a normal day out and about. I love the baby sweater in greens and yellows. No babies in our lives and I doubt the dogs want to wear one, so I will just sigh and think about how adorable it is.

So glad you're getting a bit of that wild back. ;)

I am one of those who is admiring your patience and applauding the way that you are taking one step at a time and not overdoing things. I also know how hard it must be for you ... considering I know how hard it would be for ME (who tends to push too hard too soon with most everything.)

Sounds like you had a wonderful, normal day!

It makes me smile to see you recovering, one blog post at a time.

Perfect pattern you chose for the sweater, and that new mama is going to love seeing her baby in it! Your leaves are about the same color as ours right now. Really thought yours would be further along being so much farther north than us.

Hi Hilary,
I'm the one who gave you the Mary Oliver quote asking what you intend to do with your one wild and precious life. I love that poem and that phrase just seemed to suit you. (Unless someone else left it too.)
Anyway, I thought you might like the whole poem, so here's a link to The Summer Day by Mary Oliver. Enjoy.

Every post you sound more like yourself, your pre-headache self. It is a joy to behold.

I'm as rabid a yarn stasher as you are and presently knitting a sleeve while I read blogs. Can you guess my question? I gotta know...
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE BABY SWEATER PATTERN?! Oops, sorry, I will stop yelling now. Adorable baby duds get me overexcited.

When life gets overwhelming, I turn to yarn; maybe it's the feel of the fibers and the calmness I get from it. I love the colors you have chosen for the little sweater and can't wait to see the finish project. I'm glad you're getting back to what feels normal. XOXO
