Crazy as a Loom

Good and tired.

I am watching the Olympics, but having trouble keeping my eyes open. I had my granddaughter for a couple of days. She is so much fun, and not any trouble at all, but sleeping with her isn't conducive to much rest. She travels over the bed.
She told me when my birthday comes this month, I can be 40 if I want. I said that would be fine. I would take that.
Which proves, of course, what we have always known, age is a decision we make every day.
Don't you think?

Besides, who can argue with this face???

I finished four of the waffle weave towels....I am giving them away to deserving people.
I have quite a bit of warp on the loom, so I will make more.
Do you deserve a towel?? Tell me why. I'm in the mood to send one out to you.

From Crazy as a Loom

Even though I am mostly into weaving rugs, sometimes my body needs a break from it. And my brain needs some stimulation, I know that's hard to believe. And these dish towels do it for me.
From Crazy as a Loom

The studio was busy today. Ava was playing, and chasing cats, or they were chasing her as she dragged a string through the house. I wove a 4x6 rug to free up the Toika for orders.

There were several people in and out, and by the end of the day, Ava ended up in the rocking chair on my step daughter's lap. Sydney decided that she shouldn't be left out, so she stretched out on top of her.

And Ava was so tired, she didn't seem to mind.

I will leave you tonight with this thought, that I heard on NPR the other day. It touched me, and makes my brain whirl.
Which isn't all that hard to do, I'm afraid.

It went like this:
"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
Mating Luther King, Jr.

Oh, they're beautiful. I am sure there are more deserving people than me out there, but I could make a try by saying that I turned 50 this past Saturday and I like the idea your grandaughter had. So I will be 40 for another ten years.

I don't know if I ever get what I deserve, and that may be a good thing, but I sure would like to have a beautiful new towel. I could call it a housewarming gift. Moved into a new (old) house in October.

I would love one of your towels....I have often thought I'd like to weave. But....I will never be fortunate enough to own a loom. Probably a good thing because I have no room for a loom....but, I have room for a new towel!

What a wonderful post, Hilary. And no, you can't argue with that face!
I think I deserve a dish towel but am keeping my name out of the running. I already have been the recipient of your wonderful gifts.

Hmmm. Isn't it funny how when you wishing for something, a chance comes about to receive it!

I need a good towel. A really, really good kitchen towel. One that will do the work required of it. One that will maintain it's glorious beauty while it hangs from a fancy-dancy hook on my 100 year old kitchen wall. A towel that will understand, that even though there is a dishwasher in the 100 year old kitchen, a choice has been made not to use it.

I grew up with a dishawasher. I never had to do dishes growing up as an only child. Except at my Nana's home. She taught me the art of dish washing. And it starts with the perfect towel!

And that is why my kitchen needs a beautiful, waffle weave custom towel. Made by love with Hialry's hands :)

p.s.your granddaughter is adorable!!

Well, I am unfortunately in a mood where I feel I don't even deserve the air I am breathing today, but I do think these towels are gorgeous. Know what I REEAAALLY like? When I scroll down on the page, the towels MOVE. Yeah, the fabric...undulates; it's alive. Try it, move your mouse up and down, up and down. See it moving? It's magic! I love it!

PS - There's no better medicine for severed fingers and PRISTINE hearts than granddaughters and cats sleeping on your lap!

How I love your granddaughter's face and most of all her attitude. I loved being 40 and I'll bet she will too one day. Your writing always makes me smile Hilary. Don't ever go away, okay?

And I need one of your towels because I adore your work and I would cry if one did not appear in my mailbox in the coming days... sniffles.

Hi Hilary,
The towels are beautiful!
I don't deserve anything that nice. My house is too messy.
I'm having a birthday this month also (63) and Yes, I like the thought of being any age you want to. Even though I KNOW I'm an older woman, I don't mentally feel any different than I did when I was younger (30). Well, hopefully a little smarter!
You're only old if you let yourself think that way!!! And I refuse to!.
Happy Birthday to you!!! Enjoy it!

What lovely shots of your granddaughter!!! that curled up sleeping one with the kitty keeping her warm is just too precious!

Your towels are GREAT! But I will pass on asking for one so you can pass them on to others... Plus I already have a special rug in my kitchen!

Wow, I vote for front porch.

I heard once that you don't have room in life for anything that's not

1) beautiful, or
2) useful.

Seems like these are both!

Aren't grandbabies just grand! Mine are just a bit younger than yours, but I love the time I get to spend with them.
I love looking at those towels, I never would have thought to put all those colors together in a warp for waffle weave! Once again Hilary, you are an inspiration to my weaving mojo.
I hope your thumb is healing nicely, we bought a chickadee this month, to cut up the blue jeans. It looks just like yours, and scares me half to death. You pick it up and it turns on! I will be doubly careful.
Happy weaving, Tina

They're just beautiful. Those colours are incredible and Ethel Mae is right.. they move! If one moved in my direction, I'd be thrilled and would hope I'd deserve it. I would indeed treasure a handmade, heart filled gift from a friend.

I think everyone in the world deserves a hand woven towel, but alas since it is a gift, only the giver can decided if it's deserved. :) I love the MLK,Jr. quote, it is very true to the heart and your granddaughter's face is precious. Is it true you enjoy the grandkid more than your own? I wonder if that will be true once I get some.

Oh my, I was so young when I was forty - also not very happy. I too have a 63rd birthday coming up. This is a good age. Your granddaughter has such a sweet and open expression - lucky you to have her for a couple of days. I don't deserve a towel, just want one - like so many things in life!

Welcome to my world.
