Crazy as a Loom

Some dye, and some sun.

Bart and the girls LOVE their covered run, and especially so, now that they have lots of straw to wade around in.  Thanks, Denise, for that tip.

While they are busy scratching and pecking, I've been busy weaving, then dyeing mohair throws.

A lot of fringe to be tied............

First we soak the finished throw in warm water and Synthrapol.

Then we mix up some dye!!

I used both these containers......but I have to say that the canner was my favorite.

The dye always looks darker in the water.
So I opt for more dye, rather than less.

This one is lavender.

Then there is a lot rinsing, washing then drying.....by this time I was so busy, I wasn't much in the mood to take pictures.
No, honestly, I forgot.

But the results are astounding.
One cream, then: raspberry, paprika, lavender, sea breeze, evergreen, and caramel.

Can I just tell you that I froze my BUTT OFF with this little photo shoot??   It was brutally cold that day, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take advantage of the incredible sunshine.
So??
How do you like them???

Beautiful. Ive just started spinning and would like to handspin for a throw - would you be willing to share your pattern for the loom? If not , I understand - I love the texture . I have a 4 harness loom - so that might limit it right there.(and it's a counterbalance - so the treadling has to be tied evenly) - also limiting. Thanks so much. I've started following your blog and it makes me happy.

Stunning colors and work! Absolutely stunning, Hilary! Bart and the girls look very happy indeed. That roof will help protect them from predators, too.

I'm so glad your girls are enjoying the straw. It's fairly cheap entertainment for them. Oh boy, I love these throws and now with my procrastination they are all sold. I would love to see one in a gorgeous silvery gray color. Are you going to do more?

The contrast of your colors with the snow is wonderful, but the comparison of the softs is even more spectacular.

Oh my, such a huge amount of work. But the results are outstanding. I particularly like the copper colored one on far right, next to red.

That looks like a very tricky warp. Very wide reed. How did you corral that one?
Very pretty, and I will bet very warm.
