Some thoughts.

Frigid in the northeast tonight, not fit for man nor beast.  Why do I live here I ask myself.

For the last year, I have been annoyed by Verizon wireless, with whom I had my cell phone contract.
My bill, for just my phone, was almost $100 a month.  Then one month, I went over by 'next to NOTHING', and they hit me with a ridiculous charge.  I vowed that when my 2 year commitment was up, I was doing something else.
So I waited patiently, and on 11/2/2013, I was looking for another option.  I did consider Straight Talk Wireless, which is about $50 a month for unlimited talk, text and data, but I am not a fan of Walmart in any sense, so I kept looking.
What I came up with was Page Plus Cellular   I have had it for two months now, and I am really satisfied.  I have 1200 minutes of talk, 3000 text/picture messages, and 500 MB of data.   They use the Verizon towers, so you get the exact same coverage as you did with Verizon.  I researched it to be sure.
I am careful not to use the internet on my Smart Phone without using WiFi if it is available, but otherwise I have done nothing different.  I text my kids ALL THE TIME.
And the cost............$29.95 a month.  Seriously.  I signed up for Auto Refill on the first of every month, so I don't have to think about it.  And I am HAPPY to be done with Verizon, and HAPPY to not have gone to Walmart.  And I can spend $70 a month some other way.

Today I was sewing socks, one of those repetitive jobs that I don't really mind.   I got thinking about hurtful comments, and the people that make them.
It occurred to me, that if harsh words are spoken in the heat of an argument, that is one thing.  Those things can be chalked up to losing one's temper, not thinking, etc.
But when someone says something hurtful out of that context, then they are saying it just to make their point, and they are just being mean.
There is no excuse for just mean.
And those are the words that we remember.
We forget the ones spoken in anger more or less.
But those words spoken just to inflict pain, we don't forget those, and we don't ever feel the same about the person who spoke them.
That's just my thinking while sewing today.
I can look back at my life and prove that theory.  I have little or no recollection of things said in the heat of argument, even though I know they were said.
But those hurtful, mean comments, yup, I could access them all if I tried.  They leave marks.   Enough said.

I would like to go to Joann Fabrics tonight, and get some stuff.  But I won't leave the house in this deep freeze.  Instead, I will stay home and make tea, and have one of the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies that I made last night.
Maybe I'll have two.
It is so cold, that when Roy sees his coat and leash come out, he runs and hides.  THAT is cold.
He likes to snuggle on the couch with his blanket, or lie as close to the stove as he can get.

Or better yet, he likes to lay across a warm body, and get as close as he can get.

Roy and I hate winter.

I don't like mean people. Period.
Roy has been such a treasure for you. Such a perfect match, you two are. Enjoy snuggling and staying warm. No unnecessary trips, please.

I cannot help but think about Next on these cold nights.

Mean people serve a purpose and that is to appreciate and be grateful for our wonderful friends. It also makes us think twice about how we treat others.

I love that RoyBoy!

Thanks for the tip on cell phones. I am considering changing too and I just want it to be simple. Out here in California it is way too sunny…We are in a drought. We have had 2 inches of rain in Sonoma county so far this year. Cold nights (cold for us anyway) and sunny days in the 60's. I have to say I am longing for some rainstorms…it is unnatural to have sun like this at this time of year. I want to get cozy and eat cookies too! I think you ought to have at least 3!

I moved to Hawaii from northern Wisconsin. We had plenty of deep freeze there. Now, 65 degrees seems cold. Wouldn't go back except to visit. I do remember how beautiful the winter was at times. Much easier living here. If you have your flip flops you are good to go.

Now THAT is cold. George went out to the porch when I let him out tonight and he just stood there. He turned around to look at me as if to ask if this weather were real. It's not as cold as it is there but it is darn cold for our area tonight.

Comments can hurt so easily. I think I know of the one you speak. And it was thoughtless, that's for sure.

The problem with someone being hurtful is, they say it, then they don't give it a second thought. Meanwhile the person the hurtful comment was made to, is dwelling on it, trying to figure out why someone would do that to them. We give those people way too much power. Know how I know? Because I've given people who were mean to me, way too much of my time and energy being upset about what they said to me.
Try to let it go. Don't spend anymore time or energy on that thought, what was said, or that person. They don't deserve it.
Poor Roy. He's a snuggler. Gotta love him.
Stay warm, stay safe, be you. It's the way we like ya.

Brrr. I'm colder just looking at that first picture. It's cold here too, but we haven't had any snow in about a month (we will pay for that come summer).

I appreciate your thoughts on mean words. My Sweetie (gone for almost 5 years now) had no filter between his head and his mouth. Many things fell out when he thought them. I am thankful that I am adult enough to not take everything he said personally.

My motto is "If you can't be nice then keep your mouth shut". Why do some people have to be so hurtful?
I have a sister who has nothing but hateful comments to say about any of the family. Sad to say but I have had to distance myself from her because of it.
Poor Roy having to go out to potty. House cats have it made when they don't go out. Hope Next is doing ok in this bad weather.

I agree with Roy. We aren't nearly as cold here in Va. as you are up there, but I still whine about it. Waited as long as I could this afternoon to run some errands, hoping that it would warm up at least a little bit ... it did, but not enough to make a difference.

I don't understand how anyone can be mean and live with their conscience afterward.

Poor Roy. Can't you just get him a litter box and a treadmill so he can stay inside? I know how he feels. We should all hibernate when it gets this cold. I'm in CT and it is forecast to be minus 12 tonight.

With the gang of eight we have a broad range of those that don't mind the cold and those that do.
Stella is the one who lets it be known her dislike for having to go out the best. We call it the long walk of despair. She takes the path around the island in the kitchen, slow deliberate steps and the tail is tucked under her bum, back hunched up, head low. It is pitiful to watch. At the door, the backward glance, just to reaffirm you have a cold, cold heart...
Great deal on the phone. Take a deep breath, let those negative hits go as much as you can and head into your future. :)

you are SO right about comments said with thought vs those blurted out in the heat of the moment .. my BFF's son is recently divorced his now ex (a nasty girl, who was and is selfish beyond belief) told him some nasty things .. things that will always be remembered .. i never had any use for her and thought him a fool for marrying her .. til i heard what she said as her 'exit line' ... i hope there is karma in this world because if there is those who speak in that way will some day learn how hurtful it is

i will tell you its so cold i wore a hat!!!!!!!

Wow -- I saw the picture of the socks you were sewing and they are the ones that I bought for a friend for Christmas! They are great. We love them. There was an entire stash of socks in the store my friend and I looked at. She loved them. When I snuck back to the store a week later to get her a pair for Christmas, there were but three pair left! She just loved getting the socks for Christmas. Gorgeous and fun they are!

I can't believe of all blogs I clicked to read that I stumbled on you, the maker (you are, aren't you?), while I was looking for information about weaving ( I don't weave on a loom but want to build a small loom).

Sorry there are nasty people out there (I've met a few myself). Keep on with your goals, gird yourself with positive friends and focus on what you know to be true. Best to you. So glad to have stumbled on your blog!
