All work and no play.
Yup, that's what it was today. Work.
We had a mission.
The Reed Ideal that I just rescued, was ready for some warp.
250 spools of rug warp, to be exact.
We put 50 brand new spools on for each of the five sections that we wound. This way we never had knots in the warp. It also meant that we didn't have to worry about a spool running out.
The tension box had to be jerry rigged, to accommodate the width of the sections we were winding.
We also had to have something square over the back beam, which is round; someplace to clamp the tension box.
We did 500 turns, the beam is one yard around. But as it gets bigger and bigger, every turn puts more than a yard around. The total ends up being about 750 yards.
And now, because seeing is believing........here is a short video.....actually, two of them.
So NOW do you think we're crazy???

That loom has a nice beat to it!
Yes, yes, I think you are! ;) I would like to be this crazy...well almost. Loved the video!
Yes! That's crazy, but that's because I'm jealous I don't have all that space and equipment :)
Brave girls! It's going to be a weaving industry ;)
Yep - Crazy!
I have warped front to back, back to front and sectional but I have ever seen anything like this!
Crazy. Totally out of your mind nutso... LOL But you make some good looking products so keep being crazy!
nope .. not crazy ... but I am in awe of how (not sure which cat that is, sorry) that cat is not trying to grab those threads .. I know Jack would for sure need to get himself into some trouble there ..
Hey, there!
I've been reading your blog for a long time. Sorry it's taken so long to introduce myself. It's always a bright spot in my day to get a glimpse into your studio.
I'm a production handweaver, too, and only warp sectionally. That 750-yard beam has me totally envious! The beams on my looms can only hold about 100 yards.
Be well!

Wow that is something! Thanks for the videos so we can all see the winding on process.
This is amazing. I watched both videos. No, you are not crazy but are clever and smart!
WOW. Love it.
