No matter what kind of weaving I do, this is what moves me. Color, folks. Color.
It doesn't have to be complicated tie ups, or treadling. It doesn't have to involve fine threads.
Weaving this pile of fabric strips into this traditional type of rag rug moves me in a way I can't explain.
So I guess I won't even try.
Menopausal women, ya gotta love em.

I would love to have a basket of string balls to crochet a rug. My grandmother called it hooking rugs, but it is crchet.

I know nothing about weaving so is what you are picturing here the stitching together of the ends of all those strips (1st pic) so that you have one loooooong piece of strip *yarn* to weave THAT rug??????

Thanks for showing the steps. I've finally started winding my first warp but haven't figured out yet how to pick out which strips to use when. Now I see your picture and it looks like you sew different fabrics together and then wind your ball.
I finally get to start my weaving class next month! I think the primary focus of the class will be warping and reading pattern drafts, but I hope I get to weave some rag fabric for a tote bag.

Ah, COLOUR!! (Sorry, but we spell it different up here!) I also fall for colour. I guess that's why I have a huge stash of quilting cotton. Hilary, have you seen any of Kaffe Fassett's books? He has many: on quilting, knitting, needlepoint - and they are truly inspirational for us fibre addicts.
