Wrapping up Monhegan Island.

Monhegan Island is an artists' colony.

From loving maine2

Barely a square mile in area, the population seldom gets over 65.

I can never resist a fence line.

There were several lovely little shops and Maya was a golden retriever that belonged to one of the shop owners.
She followed the kids and they ended up taking her back.
She loved them, and they her.

They left us on the island at 11am, and the boat didn't leave until 4pm. My daughters were worried that the kids would get cranky having nothing to do all that time.
They needn't have given it a second thought.

There were so many little paths, and there was immediately a sense of ease.
They ate lunch, and then they were ready to tackle the island.
Once you got away from the little village, the rest of the island was wild.

I told you....rocks and water........they make kids happy. They make adults happy, and I have no idea why.

There are fisherman here. Some of them live here year round.

Do you ever think that this camera is attached to my face?
From loving maine2

Just wondered.
I think it needs to be cleaned, cause sometimes, it won't take the picture. No matter what.
The only vehicles here are ones that they use to haul stuff back and forth to the boats. I saw a couple with license plates, and couple without. They also use golf carts.

When you walk up some of the hills, you don't wonder why.

Guess this says it well enough.

This guy is actually in the book that they sell about the island.
He's famous.

Wouldn't this be a lovely vacay spot?

The flower gardens were thriving.
From loving maine2

The hotel is pretty impressive from this vantage point.
From loving maine2

There were some interesting wood sculptures as we walked down the path.
From loving maine2

I don't even know what to say.
From loving maine2

It is a lovely day for a nap, with the sea breeze coming through the open window.
From loving maine2

And there are lots of open windows.......and no AC.
From loving maine2

I'm exhausted, by the way.
That my friends, is Monhegan Island.

I'd heard of it, but never even thought about visiting...until now! Only...can I bring your eyes along? They see so much beauty in ordinary objects!

I had to sit and stare at all your photos for bit, especially that view of the hotel. Very nice. ~Lili

Oh, Hilary. I think I love it. I'm looking up that hotel! It's not a place I can see my husband staying, but still. I love it!

I enjoyed that more than I can tell you. We didn't get to the coast this year. I grew up on the coast and miss it terribly at times. I can absolutely smell the air in your pictures.

Welcome to my world.
