Tangled.

We went to get ice cream after dinner last night, and went by a salon named, "The Tangled Knot".
Now, that's just where a girl wants to get her hair done, right?

The ice cream was awesome.  No tangles.

Which brings me to my own tangles.
A while back, one of my blogger readers commented, and since she wasn't familiar, I followed her link back to her place.  That's when I discovered ZENTANGLE.
 Oh, dear.

I was so enthralled, I ran out and bought the "right" pen, and the "right" paper, and got to tangling.

Now, I am sure you can imagine that I am not the kind of person who sits still and watches TV.  Even when it's on, I have to be doing something else.  Usually knitting, or playing scrabble online, or reading.
But this is different.
This is pure fun, and no stress.
In fact, they call it "yoga for your brain."

I know, you're probably thinking .......she's doodling, should we tell her?

But it's so not the same.
From the zentangle website:

Creating Zentangle art provides a fun and lighthearted way to relax and intentionally facilitate a shift in focus and perspective. The Zentangle Method of creating art is unencumbered by dogma and cost which can weigh on other approaches. Nevertheless, it is sufficiently structured and organized so you can enjoy and benefit from an activity that otherwise might be considered whimsical.

Anyway, whatever it's called, can we say "hooked"???

It's so totally relaxing, that I forget the time, forget most everything else, and isn't that what relaxing is all about anyway????

If you want to know more, you can go to zentangle.com or tanglepatterns.com

I didn't buy the fancy kit, just went to Joann Fabrics, where I found the pens......as suggested on the Zentangle site......you can buy special paper also, but I just use a small watercolor notebook, and it works just fine.
I have already gotten another friend hooked,  while I was on vacay.

So if you are wondering what I'm up to, besides walking, swimming, and generally soaking up the sun......I'm getting tangled.
Maybe that's what is making my head better.   Anything is possible.

A Zentangle teacher gave a presentation at one of my quilt quild meetings. We thought since we love pattern, etc. that we might enjoy her talk. Boy did we. She got about 25 people hooked.
She keeps a moleskin notebook - the ones sold and Barnes and Nobles - where she keeps her ideas.
Fabulous. A great way to focus your mind in a different way....

Your tangles are amazing. I want to try this but am concerned I will be the only one in the universe that can't do it. Silly but...

A friend introduced me to this over the summer, and I knew immediately that it was something that I should avoid ... at least for now. Too much else going on to add an addicting hobby to the mix ... though I am now going to click your links and find out more about it.

I love it when a new idea comes into light. I struggle with reading and paying attention for long periods of time, and hate just watching tv too- so mindless. I may have to check into this as well! Thanks for sharing with us. Truly can see how it would soothe a mind and your creativity is definitely in abundance :)

So glad you are relaxing and enjoying warm weather and sunshine. Very cold and snowy in Connecticut. Just telling you so you can be happy about what you are missing!

You are amazing. You find such interesting things and thankfully you like to share. I won't think of doodling the same way anymore and I like the whole idea of passing happy time Zentangling.

I'm adjusting to retired life except for evenings when I haven't found a way to relax. So this morning I went out and bought a Zentangled kit. Thanks for the info. I had no idea this even existed. And just in case I'm not good at getting tangled, I bought a LEGO kit. By the end of this evening, I'm either going to have a tangled picture or a lego beach house :)

It's not just for paper - I just finished tangling a wooden box and some vintage celluloid (french Ivory) pictures on my blog. I do bring a pad of paper/sketchbook with me - you never know when you'll want to just sit and tangle for a bit or when you might need something to keep you hands and mind occupied - it's been a great calming influence for me.
