Lobsta, Chowda, and Beeya

OK......I admit it......I don't even like lobsta, and I hardly ever drink beeya.
But I do love chowda!!!
DH and I took a little mini vacay to Maine, to some of our favorite haunts.
Driving through Vermont was beautiful, as always.

I needed a break from the studio.....as much as I love it, I am an addict, and I don't know enough to stop.
I took this guy's photo as we were driving by. I wish I'd snapped the smile I got, when he caught me.

I love the secondary roads, as opposed to the highways. You get to see stuff.

The colors were stunning.

DH has taken a shine to a restaurant I discovered 30 years ago, the Loaf and Ladle in Exeter.
So we stopped there again.

We got soup and bread. Yum. So, so good. He got chili, and I got veggie curry lentil.

Then we stopped in Portsmouth.

Ooh, can we take this bed home with us????

I needed a break from my life......at least my life at home.
I am learning what it means to care for an older parent.
My mother has always been my biggest supporter. We have always been close, and since I was the only child, I didn't have anyone to compete with.
She has lived with us for the last 6 years, and for the most part, it has been OK.
But in the past year or so, my mother has changed, and not in ways that are better, or easier to deal with.
I know that this is not going to get any easier as time goes on. I also know that my attitude is going to mean EVERYTHING.
So, I think a getaway every now and then is in order. What do you think?

Yes, getaways are a necessity! You gotta take care of the caretaker...

Beautiful pictures of your mini vacay. Thank you for sharing them! Good for you for getting out there and resting your soul.
What a wonderful daughter you are, taking care of your Momma. Bless you for that. I only hope that one of mine isn't too tired of me to do the same for me one day.

Looks like a lovely break! Yes, you need breaks when doing elder care...
I have a father who is not doing well and insisting on living alone and my husband has a mother at 87 has decided to refuse all medical care and now unload her mind on all old arguments past.

Yes, you definitely need a getaway to keep your sanity and come back smiling.

I love getaways and I adore taking the back roads. My hubby on the other hand believes in interstates and getting everywhere in a hurry. He's no fun to travel with. *sigh* He just doesn't understand how to slow down in life and take things as they come.

So beautiful in New England this time of year. I envy your trip. Be sure to take care of the caretaker. As a much older woman I know what a pain in the **** we can be - so set in our ways and sometimes very dogmatic! Patience is a virtue! (Moments in Time)

A get away is a good thing. It refreshes one and gives a better perspective on things at home. My Mom lived with me for a few years so I know exactly what you mean! We were always close and I was looking forward to living with her. It turned out to be the most difficult years of my life! I tried so very hard but it just did not work. Maybe if it had been a few years earlier before her health went downhill. I'm sure you are doing your best.
