So I went for a closer look, and realized that it was momma kitty, taking a nap in the sun.

She appears to have claimed my studio as home.
I finished a 4x6 rug today, and though I wasn't all that fond of it on the loom, I do like it better on the floor.

I find it a lot easier to weave a rug off the top of my head, rather than to weave a rug by someone else's direction. But that's what custom rugs are all about.
I have once again been reevaluating what I do. I found myself getting overwhelmed, and had to sit and ponder why. I think I may need to rethink some of it, and use a little imagination to get back to the place I want to be.
No one is as hard on me as I am. And lately I have been beating myself up pretty good.
When I started Crazy as a Loom, I wanted to weave. I wanted to create beautiful rugs, and I wanted to enjoy my retirement years doing it.
But I am by nature a very hard worker.
So it stands to reason that my little business has turned out to be a little bigger than I expected, and to be honest, maybe bigger than I want.
This is what I am struggling with. That old work ethic/making money/being happy routine. It is an issue that has dogged me my whole life.
I would like to get it right, eventually. I would like to learn to relax. I wonder if it is possible.
The kittens have come home from their weekend with Tammy. Now it is my turn to try to get them to warm up to their situation.
And it's time to seriously look for homes for them.

Oh my goodness, how much does a rug like this one cost.. I love the colors and the way the colors blend into each other.. You are so creative> I'll bet the person that ordered this rug is going to be so excited~! I know I am~!
I love your kiddies...the one sleeping in the driveway is way to comfortable.. A good cat is one that sleeps on it's back. Glad the kittens are coming back to the studio..someone will come by and take them for you.. Don't put a free sign in front of your place.. Kittens go quicker if you charge something. Good Luck and keep up the good work.. I love you blog..
I would not have put those colours together either but the rug looks fantastic!
Totally understand about the business growing bigger than planned....always keep it simple and take time to remind yourself what your plan was in the first place. Sometimes we go off course and have to regroup....and remember, there are many of us out there that are very envious of your ability to weave and make a living at it!!
Love, love the rug!!!
I quite like those colours.. they remind me of a foggy mountain morning.
I like the colors, too. It would make a nice contrast on a light-colored floor.
It sounds like we are both going through a little soul-searching, a little adjusting in what is important and what is not.
This is exactly what happened with my teensy little rug hooking business. Had to step back slowly...and while doing so I bumped into a big free rug loom. Hmmm.
You are a wonderful creative force Hilary. take a deep breath--you know you will find a way to make the time and space you need because you are a wise woman of much life experience.
PS that rug totally rocks.
That rug is beautiful.
I think whatever you decide to do for yourself is right.
I don't know if this would help you as I'm late to the party, but would you consider hiring some part time help so that you could concentrate on the things you'd like to be doing within your business?
BTW - I like the rug it would look great on a very light wood floor.
She is so sweet, mom...
