Crazy as a Loom

A little rant

Can we talk?

I have been working on getting this Looper Loom ready, and in the process, realized that 'cleaning' the threads off the loopers was going to be an ISSUE. Really.
The problem, folks, is that noone really wants to work.
In an economy where people have been laid off, the unemployment rate is up, and money is tight, noone wants to work.
I have done the Craig's List thing. Several times in the last few years. I have used it to find people to cut socks, to loop socks and loopers, and even to sew.
Now, mind you, I love to do it all, and I would do it all, if there were that many hours in a day, or if I didn't have to sleep.
But I have gotten kind of partial to sleeping, especially in the last 6 months since I stopped taking the poisonous Prilosec. I now sleep like a baby.
So I don't want to give that up so I can work 24 hours.
Not even me.
I have been lucky a couple of times, but out of the several people who have done work for me on occasion, only one remains steady. She cuts socks. She loops socks. And she has a full time job.
Which brings me to the point of my mini rant.
People who like to work, and who have a work ethic, work well, and not just at one thing.
On the other hand, there are people out there who NEED the money, who have the TIME, and could do the work.
They don't want to.
A couple of people have taken my product, the loopers, and just never brought them back. So now I have to be the bad guy, and go fetch them.
Hear my teeth grating??
From autumn

Consequently, this is what I did today. I sat outside, and sorted/cleaned loopers. See all those threads...they have to come out.
I did them all day.
Because I can't get anyone else to do them.
They want quick money, easy money, free money, but damned if they actually want to be 'inconvenienced' for it.
So I guess this week will be a week of sitting on my butt, picking threads off loopers, so I can make the kits, to take to the show, to make back the money, so my husband doesn't kill me.
Amen.

Oh girl! I hear you. I hear you loud and clear. I'm glad that I'm one that likes work, and always needs my hands busy. If I were close, I sure would come and help!

Have you thought of locally looking for a program that looks/provides work for the handicapped? This might be something they would be thrilled to get for some of their workers...

I agree with Theresa...or have you thought about a local girl scout, boy scout or 4-H group that would like to make some money. They could get that job knocked out in no time, and have a great time doing it!!!!

Have you thought of assisted living people? or nursing homes. Seems like the people who have work ethics are old and live in places like this. Yikes.. I wish I lived closer to you, I would be in your back pocket helping you...
Have a great day and hope you get some kind of help ~!

Dang, Hilary! To think that you could be weaving something absolutely scrumptious, but instead, are sitting there picking threads for hours on end?! I am FEELING YOUR PAIN, for sure. :>{

So sorry to read this. Be nice to take them to a retirement home. If I lived there, I'd be wanting something to do.

Dont`be worry, that`s the wrong way..

search another way for yourself..

ich denke ..suche deinen Weg..ärgere dich nicht..es wird Gründe geben, weshalb sie nicht arbeiten mögen und können, die wir nicht verstehen,
diese Menschen brauchen anderen Weg als deinen.
Mache anderes Projekt..
gruß und best wishes wiebke

Ethics...I hate to label a "generation" (cuz it makes me sound old) but so many people younger than me(I'm not saying all) just don't get it - they want it all for free, want hand-outs, wouldn't think of volunteering, thinks they are owed things. People ~ you get what you give in life! You have to earn respect, and earn the right to own things, work hard at jobs that maybe aren't too glorius at first, and GIVE freely. That doesn't mean be walked on, you have to have goals, but the US has some serious problems with raising children it seems - why is the last generation + feel like everything should be handed to them. (sorry that was my rant). I hope you find a friend, business or otherwise that can give you some free help. I used to help a local yarn shop do anything she needed and loved it until it closed. Love your products and might have to have one of those darling looms or a rug soon. Husband has cancer right now so funds are...never mind...lets not talk about it. Keep the spirit alive and may positive thoughts keep things afloat.
Always, Robin

I will never understand why people are so affraid to work. Ok, I might be wrong but I think people's work ethic comes from their parents. So why are parents being so slack these days and what's wrong with starting at the bottom and working your way up?? Don't get me started I could go on and on.

Hiliary, I wish I lived closer to help you out!!

Good luck.

Ya know, part of it just might be that parents of this generation *gave them* too much and never made them *earn it*.

Tooting my own horn here, but if I wanted something, I had to earn it. In 1972, by age 12 I was babysitting, snow shovelling, a newspaper route and finally waitressing when I turned 15. My parents never had the money to buy us *things* in a family of six. They had all to do to keep a roof over the head and food in the belly.

Now my kids all had to have jobs to buy the things they wanted too. But many of their peers never had to. Now at ages 25-30, most of their peers only work sporadically, many still live at home, drift in and out of relationships with babies all over the place. And most of the guys avoid child support by not having jobs, and the moms are on welfare to take care of the kids.

Gosh... I think we did okay. Our kids all moved out at 18, now 2 of the 3 own homes and their own cars and hold good jobs and are bringing children into the world in stable loving homes. Heck, most of our kids make more money now than we do! LOL

It's a shame, the old world is going to H*ll in a Handbasket feeling, but it sure doesn't seem to be improving?

Wish we lived closer - my 'stay at home to raise her 2 small children' daughter would love to have the extra income in her family right now (husband was without work for 6 months last year). She cleans a neighbors' house, horse corral and llama pens twice a week, so this would be a great job for her to do at home. Fortunately not all of the younger generation is lazy. I just wish more were like her!!
