Forced to be random

(click on pics to enlarge)

This grew out of the pile of composted dirt that I had delivered some time ago. I had just given up on vegetable gardening at the studio, even though there is plenty of room to garden. I just couldn't figure out how to beat the woodchucks, so I took the easy way out, and made the garden into more lawn.
Then this.
I guess it is a squash of some sort, but I guess I will just have to wait until they actually appear before I know what kind of squash.
Now I want to garden again.

Occasionally, on Saturday morning, my husband and I go to some garage sales after breakfast out. This was one of my finds. It is actually for my grandson, Logan, so he can do his homework in his bedroom, in peace and quiet. It was $50, but I offered $40, at my husband's suggestion, and bought it for that. It is perfect for a 9 year old.
Not long ago, a friend of my mother's gave me this quilt. It has some rips and a couple of missing squares, but it is generally in great shape. The batting is wadded up in places, but that can be replaced. I absolutely love old quilts, and will lovingly sew this one back together. I can just see it on one of the beds at the studio. It is perfect.
Every evening, Ed sits and sniffs the evening air through the little space that I give him out the window. We actually have central A/C, but he loves it so much, we open the window anyway, at least until he barks too much at passerbys, or the kids next door that seem to love to play in front of OUR house. Then it is time for closing the shades.
I have been reading this, and I love it. Just tons of intesting stuff, and great recipes. I love new ideas, or old ones that I never heard before.
While I am reading, or writing on my blog, or reading all your blogs, DH is watching MLB.
Every night that the Red Sox play.
Every night.

And my mother, who has her own living space off our kitchen, is watching old black and white movies on her TV. And complaining that her Cable guide doesn't tell her EVERYTHING that is on.
I would rather be busy doing something else.
Today was a busy day, sent a bunch of rugs to the Left Bank Gallery in Mass. I have so much to do, and while I was tying on a new warp, which leaves lots of time for pondering, I realized that I DON'T need to advertise. I can't do any more than I am doing, and I am working every day. If I were to advertise, and get more business, I couldn't do it. So why bother, and why spend the money?
I laugh when people congratulate me on my retirement, like I am sitting home and watching soap operas.
Nay, not me. But congratulations are in order, because I am doing what I have waited my whole life to do. I never expected to retire and sit around. My genetic pool would not allow that. But even though I am working harder than ever, I am doing everything at my own pace, and the way I want to, and well......it is priceless.
This morning, I went to Agway before going to the studio, bought some stuff to get rid of the Japanese beetles that are eating my roses.....thanks for the tip! And I bought some daylilies on sale. I took a break and planted the daylilies, and another to pack up the order, and before I knew it the day was done.
Quote for today.
And every day actually.

And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation, some fact of my life. unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake.

Tomorrow is Friday. Have a great one!

Awww, Ed looks content there at the window. Missy always lays at our front door... she can't smell the outdoors, but the entire door is glass so she can see all who pass by or enter the yard. She loves it, that's HER spot.

I planted some gourd seeds this summer, and my plant looks a lot like the one in your picture. They were "mystery gourds" since the seeds were in a tin belonging to my late husband. So far, I have 4 bottle shaped gourds doing just fine. They are about 12 inches long at this point. The white flowers are so pretty, and the vine has just gone crazy with all the rain we've had this summer. Enjoy your mystery plant!

Oh my, what a beautiful picture of Ed. Dogs know how to live in the moment and savor the simple things in life.

Yes, retirement means that we finally have th time to do all the important things that just got squeezed in between the 'have to's' previously! Love the desk and old quilt-I have a special place in my heart for the treasures of old!

Welcome to my world.
