Another happy day with these two.
I often think about how long I will get to see them grow.
Graduation? College?
It’s a sobering thought.
There’s been a FB post about the issues of using a Keurig.
As I’ve mentioned before, there is some water that you can never get out, and pictures have surfaced of the slimy water that can be found there.
Then there’s the issue of all those Keurig cups ......millions of them....clogging up landfills.
For me it was an easy decision, and I gained counter space that I didn’t have to give up anyway. It was a win/ win for me.
And the Melitta makes amazing coffee!
The other night I happened to be driving home through the country at dusk.
It was lovely.
It’s a great thinking time.
Although sometimes, I do believe, you can think too much.
Today I went to the local SPCA with my daughter, who is looking for a dog.
They had just rescued 40 puppies from a kill shelter in Georgia, who were scheduled to be euthanized today.
The whole time I was there I felt like my heart was coming out of my chest.
My brain refused to grasp the concept that people are so irresponsible, that all these puppies were even born, and NOW they are going to kill them.
I wanted to bring them all home.
I am still very unsettled and anxious over it. To be honest, I’m clueless about how to make these feelings any better.
I have to stop thinking about it.
But then, don’t they deserve us all to be thinking about it?

We can’t save all of them, but at our cat shelter where i volunteer, we save as many as we can. Even so, you can’t think about it all of the time. You do what you can to save your one that you can, and then move on knowing you did your part.
I'd snap one of the little cuties in the bottom row in a heartbeat. Myself, I can't walk into a shelter without coming out with another set of teeth and tails. When the need is great, I take in what can't be placed. Spike and Mandy are two that came to me as seniors and are hard to find homes for due to age etc. I find while my conscience is not completely assuaged, donating to both the county shelter and the local no kill shelter help. I do my own donation jar. Change, small bills floating in my pockets gets donated. Twice a year I cash it in and add if need be.
So, what puppy did she pick?
I can't go to the shelter, or even look at the to-be-adopted dogs online. I can only save 1 at a time right now, as my little guy has made it clear he wants to be an only. A kitten did come to my house at 10:30 last night. (S)he had on a collar, so I petted her/him for a bit, then, since (s)he had on a collar, I set her/him in my yard with a bowl of food. The food and the kitty are gone this morning. I'll ask around neighborhood to see if I can find the owner. It's the best I can do.
Here is a widely-used quote about the stray pet situation:
“Adopt, if you can’t adopt, foster, if you can’t foster, volunteer, if you can’t volunteer, donate, if you can’t donate, educate”
I do all of the above because I'm a little obsessed with dogs. But there's something in that solution that everyone can do.
I have been involved with animal shelters in one way or another for over 25 years and it is very disheartening to see that we are getting no-where with people on the issue of spaying and neutering. It's just as bad now. I guess it's a real flaw in humanity but I don't know why. I do know that the cost to have it done is far too high and I don't see it coming down in the future. Unfortunately, if cost is the issue people have to stop taking on animals they can't afford. I hope you enjoy those grands for a long long time. :)
We've adopted many rescue dogs over the years, we have four at this time and I love all the cats and dogs you've cared for. I wish I could adopt more.
Your grandchildren are beautiful! We've just had our first!
I personally prefer a french press. No filters to throw away, there is a filter built into the press. I agree, Keurigs add so much junk to landfills.
Best to you, Nancy
I have also been traumatized at a local shelter, and I simply cannot go back there for any reason. And your cuties in the first picture never fail to give me a smile. :-)
not thinking is impossible .. i donate to several rescue groups and to my vet who brought a van, equipped it and travels to the boroughs to spay/neuter for free if you have no money and for a small donation if you do ... the toby fund ... its named for his rescue who passed a few years ago ..
I have been brewing Melitta coffee for over fifty years. I have the one cup and a Melitta porcelain 8cup pot. It makes the best coffee because the water is boiling when poured. Most automatic coffee makers do not heat to boiling. Years ago a woman got scalded by a boiling hot container of coffee in a McDonalds and this resulted in a lawsuit. Since then, manufacturers have lowered brewing temps and the auto-brewed coffee does not taste as good.
