Crazy as a Loom

Quinoa???? You're kidding, right?

There was snow on my windshield this morning.  I had no interest in photographing it for you.
You will just have to take my word for it.
Then it continued to rain all day, but that's OK.
Acceptable.

The cats and I spent a lovely, uneventful day in the warmest room in the house.

Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.......
Which brings me to a question, one I would really like to have your opinion on.
You may have noticed, my music playlist is not on my blog right now.  I don't mind the music, after all I picked it out, but I wonder sometimes how much it might be annoying my blog followers.
So what do you think??  I am taking a poll......music???  no music????  I will let you decide.

The 30 ft rug is done, but still attached to the loom.  It is resting.  Then on Monday, I will measure it, and either take some off, add some, do the header, and take it off the loom.  It will be on its way west.

So today, I decided to play, which to me means that I can weave whatever I want.
So I wove placemats.
These are a soft brown.

Someone didn't want me to weave.  He might not be able to talk, but his message is very clear.

After giving attention to Mr. Interrupter, I wove this set.   I love the way the fabric makes a pattern when it's woven.

I had to go to the grocery store........family dinner at my house tomorrow.   DH is cooking the customary ham, but I don't eat meat.  My middle daughter doesn't either, and my youngest eats very little.
So I decided to make a few things just for us.
I made some stuffed mushrooms.  I found the recipe over at  The Smitten Kitchen
The filling is wonderful......sun dried tomatoes, basil, panko bread crumbs, garlic.   I can't wait to try them.
Then I made a Quinoa fruit salad.  I know, I know.  It sounds strange.
I had to explain to the check out guy, and the bagger, what quinoa was.
I got the 'look'.
The jury is still out on this one.  Will let you know.
And I am making baked beans.  Because beans are good for you.
And pies.
Because pies take away any pain you may have.  And I will bike extra miles this week, just so I can have PIE.
Have a lovely weekend, all.

No music. Actually it's why I read you in a reader rather than your site. Music slows the page load dramatically, and I cant bear unexpected noises from my computer.

I only put a song on my playlist when it's fitting of the post, because I've been told it's annoying. Ok then!

No music, the first thing I do is turn it off. Then if I am looking for a particular post, I have to turn it off every single time I switch pages! Bummer! Otherwise I don't miss a post!

No music... I always hit mute as soon as any blogs that play it load.

Another no vote. It doesn't irritate me greatly, but since you asked...

I love the music and the occasional times I wanted quiet or had the tv on I just turned it off. Most of my friends are irritated by it on blogs though.....

I'm a peace and quiet kinda person. And especially when I'm reading - like in blogs. I don't want singing going on while I'm trying to read. It's easier if its instrumental only, but sometimes I'm reading blogs and the hubby is napping or whatever and I really don't want to have to hunt for the playlist button on someone's blog.

I like those placemats a lot! Happy Eastering tomorrow!

Sorry, but I really dislike music on blogs because I'm almost always listening to my own music and the new sounds feel invasive to the established mood. On the bright side, it hasn't stopped any of us from visiting.

I love that last pattern too. Just lovely.

Hi......ha, I was going to be somewhat gracious and say let the music stay, I can always turn it off (which I do). Often I listen to NPR as I read blogs so the music is too much. However, I prefer no music on any blog. One I read never changes the turn, ACK!!! Love the pattern on your place mats, too, but I love, LOVE the kitties the very most. I just can't help myself, kitties are so precious.

Your Easter dinner sounds deelish.

Mmmmmm - I don't eat meat, love quinoa (but never thought of including it in a fruit salad!), love baked beans - so - what time should I arrive? :-)

Music is great with dinner - but I have been scared too many times by music suddenly coming on on a blog and I usually have my own background music going.

The pattern/design in your placemats is simply beautiful - subtle - lovely.

Your cat looks pretty proud of his ploy to keep you from diverting your attention from him!

I like the music. I have it on my blog. If I am listening to mine and yours starts I always keep the one on of the music I like best.
Love those placemats. There is a nice pattern going on there.
I have never tried quinoa. I can't wait to hear how your fruit salad turns out.

what the heck is quinoa?

I've got to put in a big YES vote to your playlist. I hit the "pause" button prior to reading the day's entry, then crank up the music and get on with other things. I've seen the playlist removed from your blog a couple of times, and it's a bit disappointing not to see it!
Love the colors in the placemats. Laughing at the "resting' rug still on the loom. Don't rugs lie down all day? Why is it tired? *feeble attempt at lame humor*

I LOVE YOUR MUSIC! But it looks like others don't. I guess I'll have to learn how to create my own playlist. I would minimize your blog and listen while reading the other blogs. Your choices in music are not annoying, they are peaceful and pleasant. And I also like Quinoa, I make it in my rice cooker.

I love to read your blog. I like your music. It was strange you decided to take it off today......Today I was in the kitchen and don't have a radio nearby...I thought, oh, I'll put on Hilary's blog...and the music was gone...Had to put on cable TV music...icck. I usually have the volume off on my computer. If I want to listen, I turn the volume up. If I don't want to hear it, I turn the volume off. That's easy....

Carol said...

Always try to remember to turn the volume on before the music comes on. I'm sure it's good but I don't need the distraction.
Keep inspiring us with what you're weaving. I love those placemats!!!
Bought some quinoa recently but haven't tried it yet so am interested in seeing how it works!

I love love love your music, and I have a lot of the same songs in my MP3 files.... but.....

I am only on a little aircard for internet access and it's limited to 5gb a month. And it takes quite a while to load the page when the music is on there, even before I can hit the *off* button.

I have to put in a no vote on the music. Sometimes I'm blurfing and I'd rather not have everyone around me know that I'm blurfing and sudden bursts of unexpected music are a dead giveaway! ~chris

I also don't like music on blogs and regularly turn it off. And I also like quinoa but haven't made any in a while. In a fruit salad? That sounds good. I will have to search for some new quinoa recipes, head over to Trader Joe's, and pick up a fresh box.

fiberdance said...

as an earlier commenter asked--what the heck is quinoa? And, not that your music choices are in question-but I'm not a fan of music on blogs

Lisa Rasche said...

even though i enjoy your taste in music, i must agree with mudmaven --sometimes I sneak a peek while at work, and must scramble to turn off the music before anyone notices. I just let my kids choose the new warp colors, and changed reeds to one with a smaller e.p.i, mainly because I like the look of your work. It's been a while since I warped up a big, wide rug, I've been weaving placemats, too, and have gotten used to not having to mess with the shuttle as much, getting it through a wide warp.

Music, no music - either way I love your blog, and your work. You're an inspiration to me (a new weaver). It's your blog. Do you enjoy the music?

I like Quinoa, I just don't have many recipes to make with it so I need to find some so I can use it more.

For those that don't know, it's very high in iron and has a lot of protein. It's a grain, small tiny grain, and you cook it as you do rice - two times the liquid (chicken stock or water or veggie stock if you don't do meat), to one measurement of Quinoa. It needs seasoning and flavors tho, it's a bit bland. But VERY healthy!

Have a wonderful day Hillary.

I vote a big "YES" to the music. I love your musical choices as much as your other creative content. One can always "mute" if desired. Again, I say 'let it be'! Lorraine

Neutral. The laptop has a convenient button to turn off sound. I did 'get' Damien Rice from you tho'. Thx.
Once had to explain to a grocery store cashier that the parsnips weren't really white carrots. She was turning the bag over and over like it contained something completely disgusting. I get the look too.

Joan said...

Hi Hilary,
I would be a 'no' vote as well. Normally the first thing I do is hit the mute button, but for the last few weeks your playlist has had this message: Due to licensing restrictions, some or all tracks may be unavailable for playback in your country.

Music or no music, I still love your blog!

Tammy said...

No music - I think it slows the loading process and I usually read blogs early in the morning, so I don't like the noise to wake everone.

Valerie said...

No automatic music. I sometimes open a bunch of tabs from the feed reader because I like seeing the work that people put into their layout. But it's annoying to have one of them making noise that you have to click through to turn it off.

Now..if the music fits the post, it's nice to be able to turn it on while reading the post. But music opening with the post slows the download and is annoying.

I'm a Nay! Not that there is anything wrong with the music choices, but I find it distracting while reading also. It always scares me too when I first load your blog page. That said, the music hasn't and won't keep me away.

Welcome to my world.
