L finally got a chance to weave a double binding rug. She found out that it takes a lot more concentration than just plain weave.
But I think she did an awesome job.
While the house was being painted, one of the workmen, stepped into a hole in the lawn. It's a miracle he didn't break his leg.
It turned out to be an old dry well, that had been covered with a piece of plywood, long since rotted.
I have mowed over this for 7 years now, and I am amazed that I never fell through it.
Such is my luck.
Old houses are like boxes of cracker jacks, you never know what the prize will be.
This will soon be filled up with crushed stone, and dirt, so that will be a done deal.
OK, OK, now it's confession time.
This is where I stand up and say my name............you KNOW what I mean.
L and I decided to put it together on the porch, so we could weave on it out there for the summer.
Next was NO help.
Neither was Nuff.
Two happy, comfy boys, they are.
We got it together in jiff time. I cleaned it up. We put a new apron on it. I tossed all the old heddles, they were beyond saving , and I ordered new ones.
How does she look???
This loom has been sitting unused for 15 years in someone's loft.
It is in pretty great shape.
So now the boys will have company out there on the porch, while we're weaving on the 'new' Union Custom.
Where we will put it in the fall??? When it can't stay outside anymore?
Now THAT'S a good question.

Oh your new loom looks beautiful! If anyone can bring it back to life it is you :)
Yes your right about the cracker jack statement, you never know what your going to find, I am glad the painter was not injured.
I am also very glad your kitties are home safe and sound and happy!

Holy Crap on the hole! Yikes. Glad YOU didn't fall thru that - that's all you'd need!
Next & Nuff need not work. They are kit-tens of leisure. :-)
That loom is a beauty. You'll find room in the Fall. wink wink.
And yeah, it could be worse. You could drag home ugly men! Ha ha.
Hugs

Those cats look like they have been there all their lives, never having had any adventures at all. That loom is absolutely beautiful. I might have to consider looking in to what all is involved in weaving, since that rug is beautiful. They ALL are! :-)
How many looms does this one make?
I am glad I am not the only one that collects looms but I am far behind you on how many I have. I was just gifted my seventh - a Toika Eeva! Also all the equipment that came with a weaving studio!
My dream is to find a blue union special. They are not common in my area but I am on the lookout constantly for one.
Next and Enough look very comfy and cozy. They have the look of contentment. I am sure they will not mind sharing the porch as long as they can snooze in their rockers!
That's a gorgeous loom! I'm sure you will find a perfect spot for it come fall. You are good at that you know.
It looks beautiful and ready for action.
Maybe disassemble it once it can't be left out any more, store it, and use it as your outdoor only loom? The only other thing i can think of is to enclose the porch and make a sun room, but you probably don't want to do that.
Looks great on the porch along with those two vagabonds. Give them a hug for me. Deb
I just love your porch, with the boyz lazing around.. If we could only get you to do the same.
Lol! I see you will not be able to escape the kitties while you weave. What a beauty of a loom. I have always dreamed about weaving outdoors feeling the breeze, the fresh air and weaving. How lucky you are!
Great loom rescue :-D.
What a handsome loom, and the perfect spot for Summer and Fall weaving with the boys!!!!
So glad that you didn't fall through! The new loom is gorgeous on your porch. I can imagine how wonderful to be on that porch rocking and just looking at the loom.. but to be able to weave too! Wonderful.
I love the story, how you took those bones and made them into a beautiful functioning loom. Well done!
