This week is iffy for blogging......just wanted you to know. Arrived in Maine last night, and will be here for a week.
Vacay.
No cell phone service, no cable TV. But there is internet. Satellite internet, but it works. There is just a limit to how much you can do.
Plus when you're in MAINE with FAMILY, you get distracted. In a good way.
We were a bit concerned about the impact of Irene, as was everyone on the East coast, but so far, just rain, and wind, and nothing too serious. There is a power outage, but the house we are renting has solar backup so we are good for 2-3 days.
I get this feeling, whenever I'm in Maine. It's why I moved here years ago, and started my nursing career here. I can't explain it. I just love Maine. All of it, from the lakes and ponds, to the ocean, through the small towns, and miles of woodlands.
Whenever I'm here, I feel like I've come home. Never mind that I was born in New York and spent 99% of my life in New York State. My heart tells me that when I cross that Maine line, everything is ok.
When I was younger, I had hoped that retirement would mean living in Maine again, but it didn't work out that way.
But it doesn't stop me from trying to get here as often as I can.
I have books, and knitting for those quiet times, the kayaks are ready, the water awaits.
Acadia is just a jaunt down the road.
Today, in between bouts of rain and wind, the sun came out. What a temptation.
This is the view from the house.
Now that picture took a LONG time to upload. So we won't be going there often.......but I'll keep in touch.
I am itching to get my kayak out on the water.
But I can wait until tomorrow.
As Scarlet said, 'tomorrow is another day'.

I've always had good feelings about Maine but never been there. Rather it is like everything I've ever heard about it is good.
Enjoy yourself!
Only been there once, but do understand that feeling. It is a wonderful beautiful place.
Yay for you and your family. Hoping you have a wonderful, restful, fun week that's full of good memories for everyone.
Ahhhhh, Acadia, fond memories...hope to get back there some day!! xo
I have always wanted to go to Maine. The farthest east I've been is Michigan. I've been west alot though. One of these days I'm gonna change directions!! Have a peaceful, restful vacation.
My daughter is struck in Virginia tonight as she and her hubby move from NC to Portland Maine. Tomorrow they get a tire fixed and then pull a 12 hour drive to get to their new home.
I hope she feels as good when she finally gets there! She says the first thing she wants to eat is a lobster (her first)
Good news? well it means I'll get to see Maine for myself when I go to visit her!

PS... that would be STUCK... not struck .... geesh!
Hillary, I, too, feel like that about Maine. My parents, and both brothers, were born in Maine. When my father got a job at Kodak, they all moved to Rochester, NY. Then I came along (surprise!). I was the only person in my family born in NY. When one of my brothers (8 yrs older than I) was old enough, he went back to Maine, went to school, and lived there till last Fall when he retired to FL. I was shocked. Never thought that would happen. When I married, we left NY because my hubby was in the Army. We are now in VA.
Whenever I get to go back to Maine (not nearly as often as I'd like due to having horses), I feel the exact way you do. It's home in my heart. I still have family there - cousins actually. I miss it. I need to get back there sometime soon.....
Enjoy. Breathe that great Maine air and enjoy the water and the peace.

It sounds heavenly! When you get back to the "high speed world" you'll have to tempt us with more Maine photos!
Enjoy the respite and family time!
Ahhh I love Maine. Have fun and be safe.
Enjoy a much deserved rest!
My publisher is in Maine and I've always thought of it as being nearly Canadian. I'm pretty sure I'd love it and hope to find out one day.
Very tired tonite but just wanted to stop by and say 'Hello'. Enjoy your time in Maine. :-)
Crossing that bridge into Maine I always get that feeling too. Quite possibly you have picked the very best week (weather-wise) to be here. It's going to be perfect! Enjoy! ~Lili
I love Maine too.. So glad you're taking time away for yourself!... fill us in when you return. Hopefully you do not arrive home to damage from Irene. It was pretty messy in CT.
