Too much to think about

I just realized that I haven't posted since Monday. I guess I've been busy. I have been weaving, weeding, cleaning, sewing.......
I found that I have a plastic tote full of dye. It was on the old back porch, and when we cleaned the porch off so it could be removed from its hold on the back of the house, the dye went to the barn.
And since I have a barn full of huge fabric rolls, lots of them in tan, white, and an indiscriminate pale aqua, I decided to do some dyeing.
From Crazy as a Loom

I wound off fabric in approximately 1 lb jelly rolls, then I slid them onto a rod that I have extended from the wall, and cut them into 2" wide strips. I then took them and wound them on the outside of my warping board, and tied them intermittently with carpet warp. Now they are ready for the dye bath.
I dyed some Havana brown today. I dyed over a tan fabric. Maybe tomorrow I will get some good pictures. I am planning on doing a batch or two or three every week, so that by the time next winter rolls around, I will have fabric in every color imaginable.
I kind of flitted around this week. From one thing to another. Sometimes it just happens.
I have a roll of placemats done, waiting for fringes to be tied. I have a blue and white and yellow towel warp here in the living room wanting some attention. I have several piles of weeds awaiting transport to the brush/weed pile. I have some wild turquoise and orange cactus fabric sewn into strips to be woven into a rug.
Sigh.
I am overwhelmed by the disaster in the Gulf. I can barely stand to watch it on TV. I feel on some level that we should all be watching it, but it is painful to see, disturbing to think about.
The world is a crazy place. And forgive me, but often I feel like hiding out at the studio, where I can at least pretend, for a time, that it isn't happening.
What kind of world are we leaving to our children? and their children?
I'm not sure I want to know the answer.
How can some things be so beautiful, and some things be so ugly?

Thousands of us are hiding out... don't want to see the ugly truth of what the greed of Corporate America is doing to us and to our world.... it just sucks a lot because there's not a THING we can do to stop it. Such a train wreck.

There are days I could just sit down and cry.

Greed, if only we could eradicate THAT.

I cannot watch it. Sometimes I have to actually leave the room. It sickens me.

I totally get and feel the same sense of should watch but just can't. It's heart-wrenching.

Wild turquoise and wild orange sounds like it will be beautiful.

I can't stand to see the birds covered in oil.

I am looking forward to seeing your dyed cloth. Thank you for the peony photo. It sure was nice to see something pretty,

What kind of world are we leaving? Not much of one if we can't get the greedy corporations to stop destroying it just to line their pockets. They, too, need to stop and think about the world they are leaving to their kids and grandkids, not just about how rich they can get.

I love reading about your dyeing and weaving. I also enjoy your gentle sense of humor. Sometimes me reading your blog is my way of hiding. It brings a smile to my face.

Like so many others, I don't watch the news anymore - too much BAD news. I need to stay happy. I used to think that pelicans were ugly birds but not anymore. They should be blue/gray and fuzzy with their funny little 'smiles'. They don't look like they are smiling anymore. Seeing them covered in that oil just makes me want to scream!

Welcome to my world.
