From the top

I am always saying that I should do this, or I should do that.  I am guilty of putting off things that I want to do, for one reason or another.

I have several friends who live varying distances away from me.  I am intent on visiting them in the near future. In fact, I am making a promise to myself that it will happen.

This week I took a day and drove 3 hours to see one of them.

Even though I haven't seen her in probably 20 years, it felt like I had just seen her last week.
We picked up right where we left off.

This is the view from her front door.  That is the Connecticut River.

With my zoom lens.
Not much sun, but it was still beautiful.

As I get older, I think more about old friends.  Is that true for everyone?

I know I haven't been very good about blogging lately.
I apologize.
I have been doing a lot of thinking, re-evaluating, questioning my direction.  I'm at some new crossroads, one I don't entirely feel comfortable with quite yet.
Consequently, I don't have much to say.
I'm speechless.
Hard to believe I know.

I'm taking naps, long walks, keeping my life as simple as possible.
Trying not to get upset about things that I cannot change.

I still feel off balance, not on top of my game.
It's a strange feeling, one I am not used to.

So pleasing  myself with a visit to an old friend is just what the doctor ordered.

This is the view from behind her house........where we went for a walk.
It was stunning.

A new perspective is always a good thing.

  2. Lovely spot your friend lives in. I'm glad you went to see her.

I've been in touch with an old friend semi-recently, also. It does feel good to go back.

  4. You don't worry about the blogging! Just let us know from time to time you are okay, or whatever you want to let us know. I think doing what you are doing is more important. Visiting old friends is so healing, keep it up!
(Of course, I have to say, I do miss the posts, but I understand!)

  5. Hilary,
Thanksgiving marks my 13th anniversary of being cancer free….from a stage 4, you need to make your final arrangements diagnosis. There are no guarantees in this life. Sometimes, though, you can choose to live. Simply that. Live. One day at a time. It may only be for a short time, or maybe, a lifetime, however long that may be. It is up to each of us to be the most that we can be in the opportunities we are given. Sometimes the journey is rough, but each new day is a gift. To see that grandchild, to watch new growth, new life, after being told you would not have that chance. You are seeing the beauty that is life around you, and you are able to appreciate the gift you are given each day that you remain on this earth. I sincerely hope that you have many more, as you have so much to give. And take. Please do.

  6. Beautiful view! When I see pictures like that or experience first hand, I begin to question who I am and where I fit into this world of ours.
We need to learn to take time for old friends, really see the beauty we are surrounded with and let your soul tell you when it is time to take a new path in life.

  7. Yes, you are correct. The older we get the more we think about old friends. I am 70, and quite often reminisce about old friends and wonder what they are doing now if they are still alive.
