I had one of my grandkids today, and she wanted to weave.
Say no more.
Amazingly, she settled in to weave, and didn't make a peep for the longest time.
She seemed to be an old soul there weaving on that little loom, totally immersed in what she was doing.
It was lovely to watch.
She persisted with it, finished it, and I tied the fringe for her.
First, she tied in around her waist.
Then she draped it over her shoulders, quite proud of herself.
And rightfully so.
Heart be still, finally another weaver in the family.
We do have to work on her color sense, though.
Next seems to approve.
A feel good day.
Amen.
Don't you just love it!! I have a 14 year old grandson who has been helping me put the warp on since he was 9. One grandaughter, 7, who makes a great rag placemat, and a 11 year old who makes scarfs with perfect selvages. What more can a grandmother ask for,, 3 out of 11 is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much I love this and that she takes an interest in learning from her grand ma ma. I now need to go back and view the movie. :-)) I'm smiling over here.
ReplyDeleteThere isn't much better than seeing a new generation learn one of our crafts, is there?!
ReplyDeleteI think I see it in her face that she will be a weaver. That's so great. What a 'feel good' post, for sure.
ReplyDeleteVery good.
ReplyDeleteAMEN! There's nothing wrong with her color sense...I love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Sandy. Nothing wrong with her colour sense! She will become more conservative all too soon.
ReplyDeleteNext is such a content guy. He has carved out the spot he feels perfect in.
Great post, thanks Hilary
Cheers, Trish
That had to go down as one of the best days you've had in a very long time. I love the photo of her sweet little feet. I love her zest for color!
ReplyDeleteI Like her colors - and it's so wonderful to see a child with that much patience and determination to *finish* something that takes awhile to do. In our time of instant gratification she is a beauty to see!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful she is!! I love her color freedom as well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteAre those pretty much the same movements you do all day?
Her color sense is perfect...for her! Lovely to see her developing her weaving skills. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is very sweet and somehow profound; watching those little feet and hands so solidly and rhythmically working away...a little woman soul! How old is she? I would guess 9 or 10. Candace
ReplyDeleteI LOVED watching her weave! What a cute person and possibly the cutest feet ever.
ReplyDeleteJust warms the cockles of this weaver's heart!

Oh, she is a natural! Lots of patience for one so young. Congratulations for being her mentor.
ReplyDeleteWow, that brings back wonderful memories! I learned to weave many years ago from my grandmother....
