Adirondack Experience

Yesterday was the show at the Blue Mountain Lake Museum in Blue Mt Lake, N.Y., about an hour and a half drive.

It was a beautiful, cool morning.  Lois is the designated driver of the big ass truck that DH lets us use for shows.

We are very proficient at setting up. You could say we have it down to a science.

We have speculated on how long we actually want to do shows.

It’s hard work, and we aren’t exactly young any more.

We had the Structo to do some demo.  It definitely attracts attention.

The other day when Dale was here, she said “is that mine?”

I assured her that someday it would be hers.

I did a little playing with my iPad, which was fantastic for using Square.  I took pictures with it, and I’m doing this blog post with it, so we shall see how it goes.

I find that since I bought the iPad, I hardly use my laptop at all, which surprised me.

My headache is still doable, and let me just say I am incredibly grateful for every day it’s not a slammer.

It was a reasonably profitable day, which ended with me feeling a little like Edith Ann.

When I thought about it on the ride home, I realized that at this stage of my life I feel like that a lot, just a speck in a large beach of sand.

And all I can do is the best that I can do, on any given day. I think I am.

  1. Your handwoven's are gorgeous and your booth set up very professional.

Did your CAT scan come back normal then?

  2. Very nice, I am happy to hear your headache is manageable, I can't imagine what it's like dealing with that day in day out. Look forward to your blog posts. Always marvel at your woven treasures.

  4. I love your displays, are those shutters you have the towels on? Beautiful weaving, your dobby is a godsend I'll bet.

  5. I totally get not knowing how much longer you want to do shows - the problem with that is, you love weaving so what would you do with all the stuff you and Lois weave????

I love the photo of you in the giant chair. You look so tiny. :-)

We are all just little specks in this world. Those people in our lives are the little planets rotating around us. We are like the millions of stars up above.

My wish for you is that your headache never appears again, but knowing I don't have that power to make it go away forever, I wish that you could find relief and joy again. (((hugs)))

  8. Hi Hilary, the last art show that I did was just too much work, so I know what you're talking about. Steve and I (well, I'm working on him) are thinking about doing one show a year, right here at home and inviting a few other artists to join us. We'll see? Thank you for following my blog, I truly appreciate it and enjoy making new blogging friends. You asked how I can do three blogs, if you'll look at the other two, I rarely post on them. One is nothing but easy beginner guitar songs. So, if you know a beginner, they can find easy to learn lyrics and chords there.
I am delighted that I found your lovely blog.
    Have a sweet day.
    Connie :)

  9. Wow, what a spectacular show your work puts on. Everything is so beautiful.
I'm happy to see you out and about and that damn headache not putting you on the couch.
Hope it is not quite so hot there. It's been a scorcher here, too.

  10. As soon as I saw the picture of you in the Adirondack Chair, I thought of Edith Ann! It looks like it was a beautiful day for the fair! My daughter and I went to our local Lavender Festival yesterday. It was a beautiful day with lots of happy people and lots of local wares to purchase and take home.
I love your stuff, no one here weaves like you do!

  11. Your display looks amazing, so many lovely patterns and colours and I'm gad you had a profitable time - it makes all that hard work worthwhile. Also glad that your head is bearable at the moment. I'd never heard of Edith Ann, so looked it up and watched Lily Tomlin describe making a hideous sandwich, so funny - thanks for that, it cheered me up!

  12. Hmmmmm.....somehow the comment I carefully typed using my phone apparently never made it here. I find that happens sometimes, so I need to just use my laptop for commenting, I guess.

Anyway, I love your booth shots, and totally get why you're wondering how many more shows you'll do. Me too. I do really like the customer interaction, but the actual labor involved, especially in set up and tear down, not so much.

I'm thinking I might like to take a drive east to visit you some time - you're only about 4 hours away. Stay overnight someplace nearby. Does that sound like a good idea to you? I'll understand if not.

  13. Oh, yeah, the other thing I meant to say, and had typed on my phone, is that at least a decade ago, one of my mantras became "all I can do is the best I can do". I repeat it to myself often, and have told it to family and friends repeatedly, especially when something hasn't gone the way I/we/they intended. So thanks for putting it in your post.
