I am guilty of using it shamelessly, to keep the blogs I read at my fingertips. But soon it will be history.
So last night, I started going through my list. Of course, some of the blogs on my list have gone IDLE for a couple of years, and I deleted those. But I am working at putting my faves on my sidebar, which is actually better anyway, because it is even more convenient.
Thanks to my cyber twin, HILARY, over at The Smitten Image for the POTW. That's very sweet, and I am pleased to be mentioned.
For those of you who questioned where the shawl pattern came from, it's here:
Jane Austen Knits, Fall 2012. You can probably also find it at janeaustenknits.com
I go on reading binges. Though I love to knit, and I have been busy knitting for my new grandbaby arriving in September, occasionally I get to the library. When I do, I binge.
Here is what I have been reading.
The Orchardist.....I highly recommend this one. I felt transported to this place and time, and nothing is more appealing when I get immersed in a story.
Last Child in the Woods........I think every parent should have to be made aware of the major points in this book. I liked it, although it is a tad dry. But sometimes, dry is good.
And the Mountains Echoed...........I love Khaled Hosseini......he is an incredible writer, who tells sensitive stories that pull you in. I couldn't put this one down, almost stayed up all night. And whenever I read his books, I am grateful to live where I do, and not halfway around the world.
I have been weaving rugs on the Cranbrook, not as fast and furious as I would have PRE BRAIN SURGERY, but weaving them just the same.
I think I'm doing ok.
What do you think??
These are 42" x 72", hemmed edges.
I am doing more every day, but I am also remembering what I've learned from the past year and a half.
Eight years ago, when I bought the run down house that has now been transformed into my weaving studio, all I wanted was to make enough money to maintain the house, keep the bills paid there, and have a place to weave and create. A haven. A place to play with fabric and thread. Uninterrupted quiet and serenity.
I kind of forgot that when the money started coming in faster than I expected.
Today, the money doesn't move me.
This does.
Live and learn.
Oh, you are the most talented person. I hope you realize that. Thanks for the book recommendations. I have to get into a new one soon and didn't know what to look for. Right now I am reading The Secret Garden for the second time. Light reading before bed. Is it hot there? It is +30's here. Just hit us like that. Too hot for poor Kane to go for his noon walk. Now we walk right after breakfast. Give Roy a hug for me. Hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteI've never used Google reader but Bloglovin sounds the same. ? It's what I use.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had time to read right now, but work is so pressing right now, I can't think straight! Love the recommendations and will keep them in mind for the many airplane trips coming up. XOXO
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed the first two books by Hosseini and I'm looking forward to reading this one. The Last Child in the Woods sounds intriguing.
I think it was Martha Stewart that said... "Find a job doing something you enjoy, and you'll never work a day in your life"...
ReplyDeleteI have been away from your blog for a couple of weeks, and I just got caught up. I have to say it sounds like you getting stronger and are doing marvelously at this point in time. I am so glad! I have been praying for your healing and your pain to go away. Don't overdo it, please! Keep on the mend. ((hug))
ReplyDeletePS VERY JEALOUS of your table bargain! :D

Hilary, I had to chuckle when I saw that you like the exact same shawl that I do! I bought the magazine, some yarn and yes even some needles and attempted several time to knit that particular project. Alas my knitting skills a minimal and no shawl was completed. Your knitting skills are way above mine, so I will watch your shawl become reality with great relish.
ReplyDeleteLove love love the new rugs the colors are fantastic.
The "Orchardist" was one of the best books I read this last winter; I have recommended it to many friends. I also really enjoyed "Canada" and "Eight Girls Taking Pictures". I have carved a path from my home to the library where I weekly return books and pick up those I have requested. I love being able to request books on-line about which I read in my roaming around the internet and ones suggested in print material. Sharing our reads with one another is such a great way to push into the reading of something new and I appreciated your post today. I have the Husseni Khaled book on request for I, too am swept away by his writing and find myself reading for hours and hours with his books. The "Last Child In the Woods" looked to me to be a great read and I put that book on my request list as well. The new rugs pictured are lovely...so glad that your physical self is returning to strength and time without great pain. Kristin
ReplyDeletelive and learn ... a much used, often not truly understood adage ... xo
ReplyDeleteThose books all look intriguing. And your weaving is masterful, as always.
ReplyDeleteI have been going through blogs and following those I can directly via email when they have it. I was delighted to see that you do! I don't know why they have to change big things on us like this. Oh well.
I love Google Reader too and will be glad to see it go. After checking out a few readers I am not using http://theoldreader.com which has a very similar layout and feel. I love reading blogs, books, and everything else. I am definitely going to check out The Orchardist
ReplyDeleteWhat? Wait! Google Reader is going away? Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteYour rug weaving is gorgeous. I have several of these types of rugs in our home that I have collected over the years. I love that they never seam to wear out!
Happy weekend, jj
At the fell is where I'm happiest, too. Applying your imagination to rags, color and texture sounds like the best brain activity. Those are pretty rugs.
ReplyDeletebless you. :)
ReplyDeletei use feedly.com - switched as soon as google announced they were shutting down reader. right now the two are synched but eventually feedly will stand alone. :)
I use Feedly, too, and so far so good except it sometimes takes a while to load. I've seen references to the fact that Feedly is in the process of beefing up their system because so many people have switched to it. I'm going to try the other recommendations some folks have posted, and I'm grateful for those suggestions.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to read you are powering on. No use telling you not to over do it. xo
ReplyDeleteYou create gorgeous art.
