Bring me sun

Almost to 400 followers!!  I better get thinking on that giveaway.
I also have to do a January sales newsletter.
Then what's stopping me, you ask?   How about just plain old BLAHNESS.
Do not tell me that isn't a word, Miss Spellchecker, because in January in northeast anywhere, it is definitely a word.
It's cold, it's gray, it's messy and dreary.  If that's not BLAHNESS, nothing is.

The good news is that spring will come, and this will end, as it does every year.  I just have to bluff myself through it.  There always comes the conversation about moving south, but I love the Adirondacks most of the time.
I would go south for a couple of months, but there is much disagreement in this house about that.
DH loves Florida, I do not.  Too busy, too crowded, for me.
I would rather go somewhere not so far south, where maybe it isn't 80 degrees, but maybe it isn't 18 degrees either.
In the end, I probably will not miss one winter here ever.
Depressing.

My cats long for the sun, too.  And green.  So I planted these for them.

And I planted a back up for them too, for when these are all chewed up.

I used this container, because I can close it so they don't mess with the dirt, but it has holes in it for air.
 It's perfect.

A little dirt.
 And some wheat grass seeds.

Yes, all the cats at CAAL are SPOILED, inside and outside.

Yesterday both outside cats got treated for tapeworms, an unfortunate part of living outside.
$18 for medicine for 2 cats.
Did I mention that I would be a wealthy woman if I didn't like cats?

Ah, what's money anyway?
I think it's overrated most of the time.

There was sun eventually today, and I loved every minute of it.
It was good enough to do a little photo shoot.

This is  a preview of a new page on my web site.  These are my new Paper Birch rugs.

They are all in shades of white, black and grey.
They are thick and absorbent, and make great bath mats.

I have two sizes, 24x36, and 32x48.

I am working (still) on the acceptance thing.......the truth is that I am not yet past doing  just half days....at the studio, and pretty much half days at life in general.
I have found that I no longer wake up with a screaming headache, just the dull ache that is always there........I go to the studio, I do STUFF, eat lunch, and by 1pm, I am done like toast.  Neck aches, and ultimately, pretty serious headache.
Ah, but there's good news.  NOW, unlike before, I can deal with it.
I come home, take some Motrin, have some tea, lay on my wonderful, heated herb/rice pack sent to my by namesake Hilary, rest a bit...................and Voila, success.  Relief.  Then the rest of the day is pretty much fine.

Life is good, and I am grateful.
And that's that.

  1. I've often thought perhaps the Carolinas might be a nice winter reprieve maybe just jan/feb, which are truly like blah-getory.

That is so a word. You knew what I meant, right?

Love your photos. Nice to hear you don't wake up with a thumping headache any more , I do hope they fully subside . Have a good day !

  5. Here in the NC mountains we have had little to no snow. Temps today in the 40's. Actually I would love to have a snowy day or two. It will probably wait till March then snow when we don't want it.
Just remember to see the glass as half full not half empty.
There is a time and season for everything.
The time will soon when you will be back at full steam in the studio and then might be wanting a half day back?! Love the new rugs!

  6. I have the 'blahs' too, Hilary. It even shows on my face. That's right, winter takes the life out of ya. But, like you said...we rise again and it is Spring and we are full of hope and dreams and plans. Being a Canadian, I'm supposed to love the winter but I have yet to meet one that really does. Cat grass grows here, too. If not, they eat my indoor plants.

  7. Oh AMEN to 'Bring Me Sun'!! When it IS sunny here I take my cuppa joe and go sit in front of the window and let the sun get in my eyes on purpose!! This time of year it is so low it isn't uncomfortable...and it helps cheer me. The grey outdoors are so cheerless. But the days are getting a smidgen longer. If I had a place to go that was warm and sunny, even for a couple of weeks, I would go. The change of pace is SO refreshing! I am sorry about your pain, Hillary, but I am glad it is better than it was a year ago.
    love those birch rugs!!
    so pretty!

  8. You are the second person who has mentioned gratitude to me this morning, so i'm sitting up and taking extra notice.

Yes, we could be wealthy if we didn't have cats or kids, but then would life be worth it? Just yesterday, we had to say good-bye to our diabetic cat, but he added so much to our lives that he was worth the time and money and getting glared at for giving him insulin shots.

    Have a beautiful Sunday!

  10. We've got sunshine, come visit!

It was cold yesterday, but our average temps in the winter are around 60.

Love your kitty planters - what an awesome idea!!

  11. Et voila! Today there is sun! Bright, warm sunshine! I was inspired to shovel at the edges of the snow piled at the edge of the porch, knowing that the sun would have it dry and seemingly newly clean by day's end.
I'm very glad you're feeling a little more in control of your pain situation!

  12. Ah, yes! I $$$$o love cat$$$$. Within two months, I shelled out over $800 for teeth cleaning with three extractions for one cat and about $225 for the other after he slid backwards off the couch and landed on his butt, dislocating his tail. Luckily, it was "minor" enough to just let it heal with the slight kink in it. (Fur covers it so it's not visible.)

  14. Well I was all ready to tell you how cold it was at the beach. But maybe I should keep my mouth shut. But we are having cold weather for us (38 in the AM's) - even a little rain and frost. You get to freeze in the winter, and I get to fight freeway traffic everyday. I guess every place has it's drawbacks. I think I would take the snow.
