So I took a video with my phone, and I am hoping that ONE of you will know, because it's driving me crazy.
And you know I don't have far to go.
It isn't the "chirping" birds, it is a noise that sounds like a woodpecker slowed way down, softer. You can hear it at these second marks.

I wanted to show you my new woven tags, for shawls, scarves and such.
I got them from Stadri Emblems
Thanks, Cait! I love them.
For those of you who wanted my hat pattern.....I posted it under Projects.
Here is another shot of the hat, it is perfect for walking on frigid days. Just be sure to use bulky weight yarn.
Get your party mask on!
So all you have to do is be a follower, and leave a comment. Will randomly draw a name for a Socketbook giveaway, any size, any color, on Friday evening, January 11th.
Just please tell me the name of those birds!
I am such a fair weather girl, that looks pretty cold to me. Have you tried one of the bird ID sites? I know someone will figure it out before I do, but I'll check anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to send the link to your site to my birder friend Yvonne - maybe she'll know what they are.

ReplyDeleteI've had the pleasure of watching a red headed woodpecker go at a dying Alder for awhile now. They are amazing. What a milestone with 401 followers. I know it makes my day to see what you're up to, XOXO
ReplyDeleteLove the party masks! Not sure but I do think that is some type of woodpecker or sap sucker - I am not a bird person so I am probably wrong. Did Miss O get a party mask to wear?
ReplyDeleteIf I heard it around here, I'd think it was one of the millions of sounds crows can make.
ReplyDeleteWill try an duplicate hat with some homespun I have.As far as the birds go,I'm not sure
ReplyDeleteFriend Yvonne thinks it's either a woodpecker or American crow - says it's the right time of year for both.
ReplyDeleteLove the new labels! Not able to help you on the bird sounds....but it sure was a lovely day for a walk.
ReplyDelete400 Followers! Seems like just last month you hit 300 :-) Good for you!
Hilary, I would say a woodpecker drumming, what kind of woodpeckers do you have in your part of NY? Also there is a chickadee singing in between the drumming. that is the dee, de,de, dee sound. it sounds like the bird is singing chick a dee dee.
ReplyDeleteHilary, can't help you with the birds. And....I love those party masks!
ReplyDeleteCan't help much with the telling you what kind of birds they are. I'm way down south in TX. I do have a pair of Cardinals who grace my back fence every day in the winter. Love it.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and glad you are doing much better. Have a lovely day.
The labels look great and are a good idea. Can't identify that bird sound.
ReplyDeleteNot a clue on the birds. But I'm sure someone will come through for you.

ReplyDeleteLove the birdies and the giveaway. No clue what they are, sorry. Meant to say, loved the day devoted to the outdoor kitties and their habitat! You are such a good mom to so many!!
ReplyDeleteIf it gets any colder around here, i'm going to have to relearn to knit and make myself one of those hats!
ReplyDeleteYou look ready for Mardi Gras with the masks.
Congratulations on making 400 followers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the helmet pattern!
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying your blog. Sadly, no idea on the birds. But I am sure someone will know what they are.
ReplyDeleteLuv the labels. Luv the snow. It's going to be in the 60s tomorrow and 70s on the weekend here in Virginia. Wish I were in NY.
ReplyDeleteI would love a socket book. Ok I'm on my IPad and auto correct won't let me make that word. LoL
Martha
I'd guess woodpecker. Love the new labels!
ReplyDeleteTis warmish here in the midwest, too. Otherwise known as the January Thaw. When we stepped outside today, I commented to hubby that the sun actually had some warmth to it. Bring on SPRING!! However, sadly, we still have a long way to go.
ReplyDeleteLove the labels and love the "warm weather for January. No clue on the birds.
ReplyDeleteHi there! My vote is a woodpecker of some sort. love the hat......sure would love a socketbook too!!! xoxo~~Shine
ReplyDeletePileated woodpecker. Big, big guy, kind of resembling Woody Woodpecker. Their drumming is a sign of spring!! This drumming is not for food. It is a territory establishment thing--they need a big territory and find drumming posts at the edges of a suitable acreage. This tells other pileateds to find their own turf, this one is taken. We had one one winter who drummed from a tree in our yard. The noise was awesome! Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the hat pattern. I have added it to my list of knitting need to dos.
ReplyDeleteI can't help with the sound but it reminds me of the first time we heard Barred (sp) Owls. We thought aliens had landed.
Here's a link. Go to Sounds about 3/4 of the way down, hit the 'drumming' examples. Great photo, huh?

I wish I could tell you the name of the birds but my video or audio didn't work. So as I heard they were the silent birds.
ReplyDeleteSorry!
it's called woodyasnoring
ReplyDeleteLove the labels, they look great! My husband listened, and said it sounds like a tree creaking rather than a bird.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are describing what i hear from the downy woodpecker,, it has 3 different kinds of sounds,, one is a slower softer woodpecker sound. We have a lot of them here in Cobleskill. By the way, I am amazed at your walking or running pal,, he can really move at his walking speed, good job you do keeping up with him. Have a great day! Deborah

ReplyDeleteWanted to edit that last comment I left and can't figure out how! Just wanted to add that I'm Casey here, but also connie who is a subscriber!
ReplyDeleteMy bird comment . . . I'm no expert, but it sounds like a woodpecker to me, peck, peck, pecking away at a tree. They can cause quite a racket!
i am betting Kate or your namesake will know .. mazel tov on the 401!
ReplyDeleteCan't help you out with the birds, but so glad you are feeling better. Only to us Northerners would 34 feel warm!!!!

ReplyDeleteMaybe it is a woodpecker/s but the difference may be the wood being pecked--hard wood vs. softwood. I have woodpeckers that peck old broken decayed popular trees still standing in my woodland and the pecking sounds different-- oh yes and they peck on my house too--Now THAT is an experience!!
ReplyDeleteThe masks are great!!! My 3 yr old granddaughter wants one in hot pink (haha) so comical yet serious!
Because I'm half deaf I can't hear them! sorry...
ReplyDeleteIt was in the 40's here yesterday and the sun felt warm. LOVED it.
And I already have a socketbook, so don't enter me :-)
Thanks for the hat pattern!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog not that long ago and am really enjoying it. As for the bird sound, I would say a wooopecker of some sort, we have lots of them at my house. Thanks for the hat pattern, added to my "to do list"!
ReplyDeleteOops, sorry about the spelling in my previous post! Not sure what a wooopecker is?? Meant woodpecker!
ReplyDeletenot good at bird sounds, except the really obvious ones that everyone knows anyway.
ReplyDeleteI want a socket pocket!!
I really like the new label.. Looks great. Congrats on 400 followers.
ReplyDeleteI stopped blogging because something happened and everytime I try to add a picture, it just shows up as computer code and goes from the bottom up until I publish.. hard to put together posts that way.. need a techie friend!
Great job!
Can't help you with the bird call. Love the hat, think I will try one with my scrap yarn...
ReplyDeleteYour labels are wonderful; the bird sound is one I hear from the crows that gather high in the elm trees near me. . . although they are great mimics and it could be a flicker or a woodpecker.
ReplyDeleteKristin
Your labels are beautiful, Hilary!! just beautiful. Don't know what that bird is, though!
ReplyDeleteI can't help with the birds, sorry, as we have different birds here, but I love your Socketbooks, and the lovely young ladies with the sparkly masks!

Love your hat, but have no idea what birds they are. If you do find out, be sure to tell us bird lovers.
ReplyDeleteIm clueless in the bird department, but the party sounds fun! So glad you are doing better and better. Take care and enjoy the crunch of snow, wish we had more.
ReplyDeleteI was just looking at your website.....love the rugs. I will be saving my pennies to get a couple of them. I clicked on your blog and have enjoyed a little bit of reading.
ReplyDeleteMike already said what I thought it was. I was going for the pileated woodpecker. It's very loud sound.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me in the giveaway! I was follower #399. Imagine my surprise when I checked to find out I wasn't following you. Yikes!
I have no idea what that sound is.... but, I did hear some Robins singing yesterday morning around here... and I'm not too far south of you... so Spring is on it's way!
ReplyDeleteI love the new labels. Seems like you were just marking the 300 followers milestone. You're a popular gal!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are feeling better. One step at a time and you look amazing.
ReplyDeleteOne more "I can't identify your bird" comment AND many thanks for posting the helmet pattern. When I was at the lake a few weeks ago, the wind was unbelievable! I have bulky handspun and am ready to knit. Just because it will be in the low 50's this weekend, I am sure winter will return.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a drumming woodpecker. But not sure. Love your new labels!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better. And how can you not feel better with those cute little pink tights and that adorable smile to bless you with.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you the name of the birds. Still sounds like a woodpecker to me.
ReplyDeleteI think I am too late for the contest. :(
Ir sounds like a pileated woodpecker to me. I've heard them a few times but haven't been able to spot them despite their being rather large. Congrats on your 400+! :)
