I turned a corner over the weekend. I felt it.
Yes, my head and neck still hurt, and I am not 100%, but something happened.
I am better. A LOT better.
It was like a cool breeze on a hot day.
Today, I wove my first rug since surgery.
Still only spending 3-4 hours a day at the studio.
Learning that not pushing myself is the way to getting through all of this.
Very new territory for me.
And then I started another rug.
But tomorrow is another day.
Since having my brain rearranged, I have taken a different approach.
I come home after lunch, instead of working all day.
I sit for a while, and have a cuppa tea. Then I take Roy for a long walk, and sometimes.....oh, the horror, I take a nap.
Can I just say WOW here??
I am not sure that I will ever be the same.
But you know, that's ok.
One of these days soon, I will be able to work all day.
But I have a different perspective now. There's that word.
I feel like I have struggled back from the edge of a cliff, and I understand something now, that I didn't before.
Roy is teaching me a lot, now that I'm paying attention.
Wonderful news, Hilary. I just felt a wave of relief come over me when I read this post. Hugs, Deb

ReplyDeleteSo you have finally realized that you don't have to go 100 miles an hour 24-7, huh? You can be unproductive for certain parts of the day and that's a beautiful thing. It's the reward for the hard working life you have lived... so for crying out loud let yourself live it!!!... YAY!! So glad you've seen the light.. thanks Roy :-)
I'll shut up now.
Fantastic news ! Each day and week you will find an improvement as you take your time to recover . Your photos are wonderful . Take the time to relax sit back and enjoy life there's lots out there if ya take the time . I used to be rush, rush but now I am retired I see this life a lot slower and clearer now and can enjoy it ! Have a great day !
ReplyDeleteYou'll find a new, better normal for your life.
ReplyDeleteRoy is just paying you back for the great life you have given him.
You sound sooooooo good!

Welcome back, Hilary! It's wonderful to hear you so much yourself. Perhaps a wiser self because you've learned to slow down and enjoy the moment. It's not all about what we get done. It's a whole lot about finding joy in the moment. I couldn't be happier that you are doing so well and are back to weaving. The rest will come with time. Take care, and enjoy your new life.

Along with being exceptionally handsome, Roy is a very wise dog. Beautiful second rug Hilary, one of my favorites but you have shown so many beautiful things over the years!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! And, beautiful rugs! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on turning that corner. It hasn't been that long, really in the long run, and now it can only continue to improve. Beautiful rug!
ReplyDeleteYay for turning a corner. I think that rug, the first one, your first once since the surgery is you very best one yet! Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling so much better! I really think Americans work way too hard! We could learn a thing or two from the Europeans--take more vacations and tea breaks!
ReplyDeleteI would personally like to thank your dog. For showing you the light.
ReplyDeleteThat peach colored rug is gorgeous, btw. Easy does it . . .
It sure wouldn't be worth it to push yourself too fast & mess something up. Of course, you will be different, but that is okay. Keep healing
ReplyDeleteWelcome to your "new" wild and precious life!
ReplyDeleteRoy is such a good helper.
Love the rug. Nice colors!
I think you've finally figured out what you will do with this one crazy life...and we're all glad, XOXO
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as someone who had a recent cerebral hemmorhage, you may never be the same, but you may be even better! :) Love your new rugs...Love, mare
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better! Wanted you to know that I was visiting for the first time a weaving shop called The Woolery in Frankfort, Kentucky this past weekend and saw your stuff in there -- front and center of the shop, including the store window -- your little looms and your other kits -- made the window very colorful!
ReplyDeleteYay! Both for the feeling better and the learning to take care of yourself with breaks and naps when needed. Big steps!
ReplyDeleteMy dawg has already saved my life.
ReplyDeleteThey are miracle workers dressed in fur.
I'm so grateful you have one.
ohhh, so good to see that *first* rug, Hilary!
3 to 4 hours a day!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePushing limits there, Hilary.
A lot of work went into your surgery by the surgical team and by you afterwards. Don't muck it up for the sake of a few rugs. I worry that you will overdo it. TAKE CARE.....
Absolutely wonderful! So very happy for you that you are getting your health back and realizing what's important in life! I also LOVE the two rugs you started! Gorgeous! :-)
ReplyDeleteyes! those baby steps are now toddler steps .. keep on keeping on and soon you will be not back to your old self, that one didn't get it, you'll be the new improved you . xo
ReplyDeleteYou should NEVER be the same. Walking to the edge of an abyss, leaning waaaaay over and then being able to walk back and not fall in - well, there you have it - you will never be the same.
ReplyDeleteUse it wisely.
None of us are who we once were, and that's okay. We are growing into whom we were meant to be.
ReplyDeleteThis is the good news I've been waiting and praying daily to read. It was worth the wait!
ReplyDeleteI so look forward to not working and being able to take a short nap and stay up later than 9:00PM. Take your naps while you can. Rest is good for the brain and the soul.
ReplyDeleteShiralyn
Pay attention to your body. That's my doc's Rx to me. When you can weave all day, do it, and when you can't, don't. And take long walks with Roy :) Happy to have you back.
ReplyDeleteOne day at a time. It sounds like you are doing amazingly well. And the two new rugs are beautiful! Do you sell the material to make rag rugs? I have run out of sheets and tableclothes etc.. lol
ReplyDeleteDeb from cob.
