WHEW! I'm exhausted.
I share her sentiments. I have had a couple of tiring days. But you'll be happy to hear that finally, FINALLY, I have reason to think that I might find an answer to my dilemma.
Yesterday, I went to the Headache Clinic, about a half hour from my home. I was up all night the night before, thinking and worrying about it. Hey, I feel like I've been going in circles for FOUR months now, and I was desperate.
My appointment was at 9:30 a.m., I expected to be there for ONE hour, and I was there for FOUR hours. Exam, all kinds of testing, and the grand finale, two shots of novacaine in the back of my head.
But at long last, an answer, and a plan.
My tests revealed that there is damage to C2, C5, and C6 in my cervical spine, with a whole lot of inflammation that is causing my headache and neck pain.
Next week: two appointments, an injection to my neck in each one. Week after: two more appointments, and two more injections.
Apparently, I have a headache that is 'hard wired' now, and needs to be interrupted. To do that will take about 3 months of testing, injections, and searching for the exact nerve(s) that are causing the problem.
I feel, at least, like I am in good hands.
I am relieved to have someone taking charge of this monster in my head.
I'm not going to think about the injections right now.
Pain is pain. I already know that I can take it.
I live for the hope that there is an end to it.
At the studio, I finally got the sewing machine going, and the 20 medium tote bags are finished. Hope to have the pictures on my web site soon.
I want to say right here, that all of your comments, emails, prayers, wishes......all your concerns, have been very comforting, and helpful.
I have friends that I see all the time, and I have all of you, who I don't see. But that doesn't make you any less friends.
And I thank you.

Good ... that they have a plan for you. Is it steroid injections ? I've had four epidural steroid injections done on my back, was wondering if it might be the same treatment for you.

I have been hurting right along with you except in my shoulder, which makes it impossible for me to weave, gasp! yes, horrible I know. So now there is a plan for you and relief that is so AWESOME! My prayers will continue to go out to you and for the Clinicians that they will really get RID of this monster headache for you You are truly an inspiration even when you have a headache! Thanks.

ReplyDeleteSo glad (and a bit jealous) that there is a plan to make you better. I'm still searching for answers for my back, and since we are finding that I don't react normally to most meds it has been a challenge. (Aleve actually made my arthritis worse!) Best of luck!!
ReplyDeleteI woke today with a migraine and struggled through my day as my usual dose of Advil wouldn't touch it. I moved slower but I still got in the studio and did some weaving and later some project planning and you were with me in spirit all afternoon. I kept thinking "if Hilary can do it, so can I....so suck it up cupcake and keep moving"
ReplyDeleteThen to read your news tonight, I'm thrilled for you that a treatment plan is in the works for you! I think the hardest part is feeling all alone with "you and IT."
In 1992 I had severe disc degeneration in C2-C7 and the resulting headache was almost 18 months long. They gave me electric stimulation to a point in my neck while I was on an x-ray table and it was awful. I went back to massage and other gentler options and finally they eased off and went away. The arthritis that hit my neck moved onto my left hip (and subsequent hip replacement) and thankfully there have no further deterioration on my neck since. But the Big OS does like to roam at will. Getting older is not for the weak or faint of heart!

ReplyDeleteI just remembered that a friend of mine had injections (not Novocaine, but that doesn'tmatter) for quite awile following a car accident and it Worked. This sounds like something that will work. Fingers crossed.
I think Sydney looks waaay too comfortable. ;-)
Thank goodness you have an answer to the cause of the headache. I once had a migraine so severe the doctor gave me an injection immediately. How have you been able to bear the pain?
