Look at that face. How could I say no?
I think this might be her grown child, or a submissive boyfriend, cause she was eating the canned food, and grayandwhite was sitting on the chest above her, waiting.
And he/she did not go near the canned food, til she was done. I saw her give the "look", and that was all it took.
So it seems to me, that grayandwhite must be a relative, who knows SHE is the boss.
My friend, Alice, stopped by today, and we decided to take a look around the cellar.
Actually, she wanted to go, and talked me into it.
The cellar is huge, and it is easy from there to appreciate the age of the house, and the incredible work that went into building it.
We found this jug, which was actually pretty dirty, almost black.

It is really in great shape, with no cracks at all.

No identifying marks though, none.

I have no idea about this jug, who made it, what it's worth in dollars, how old it is.
But I know that someone used it, here in this house, sometime between 1790, and now.
That's a lot to know.
I didn't drink any wine out of it, but I did drink some wine out of a glass.
This week I am going to try to get my thoughts together, and make a plan for 2011. Looking at what worked this year, and pondering what I want to do at the studio in the coming months.
After looking at my last year's resolutions, and realizing how badly I did keeping them, I've decided I just need to come up with a list of things I WANT to do, not a list of the things I think I SHOULD do.
It just doesn't work that well.
What kind of lists are you making for 2011?
Aww, they look so grateful :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic find, I love old stoneware pieces, and have a lamp made form a stoneware jug just like yours.
No list, I get tired of breaking them :)
Hope to visit with you in the New Year, that's a certain !
I have to agree with "A Brit...", no list. For me making a list is asking for failure. I just know I will lose that list and then forget what was on it. May be a Freudian thing. I know what I want to do and that, I think, will stay in my mind, no need to write it down. I want to get a loom together and learn to use it, then make Christmas gifts for next year's holidays. That will be something fun at least!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
The kitties look content.
I love the idea of lists of things one wants to do/accomplish. My husband and i have been making yearly lists around the time of our anniversary (29 years now--and I still remember some things from that very first list)--things we need to do to maintain our home, possessions we might need to upgrade, things we'd like to do to help our children, and places we might want to visit...... We put the list on the fridge, where it is often not looked at for months, and then one day, one of us will look at the list, and lo and behold, we've made some progress. Some things go from year to year, some are short term. The act of writing seems to give our thinking wings.
ReplyDeleteIn the last year, another friend has made a list of things she wants to do in this year before she is 31...she's making grand progress because it has set goals and focused thinking.
Have fun with your list--it's fun to choose what you want to do.
That's a pretty cool find, Hilary. Wow.
ReplyDeleteYour list of things you want to do sounds pretty intriguing.
I like that list!..
ReplyDeleteDear Bubbalee... I like your attitude, girl.
What a nifty find. It seems to me that exploring your home would be a treat. Love that kitty face.
ReplyDeleteI often get really into the idea of making lists or plans for the new year. This year that feeling hasn't hit yet....but maybe it will. You never know!
ReplyDeleteI think you're onto something with the idea of wants vs. shoulds!!
Sue
What a treasure to find!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat else waits to be discovered?
Awww...even the kitties understand sharing and gratitude at Christmas time. (don't burst my bubble!)
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends always has a word come to her for the coming year....abundance, prosperity, etc. And that word colors her whole year. This year for the first time I've had a word come to me. I'll blog about it later this week.
Another thought: A list without a plan is just a wish list. Better to make plans with goals than lists.
Happy New Year!
