This is a rural county, made up of rolling hills, small towns, farms, and not much else.
I love Washington County, which is somewhat embarrassing, since my husband is an elected Warren County Supervisor for the city of Glens Falls.
But it is what it is.
Today, Alice and I started out with all good intentions, she helping me with some outside work. But the day was just too beautiful to waste, so we hopped in the car, and headed over to Mandy's
Spring Farm nursery, to look at the flowers and trees. We actually didn't buy a thing, but I have plans, you can bet.
Heading to Granville, the views were lovely.

Tell me this doesn't look like heaven.

We went into the little town of Granville, it was time for lunch.

We ate at Scottie's Coffee Shop right on Maine Street. The food was good, the service was good, and it cost $11.62 for both of us.
Some things are still reasonable.
Alice wanted to show me a favorite spot of hers, right on the Mettawee River.

She is a devoted reader of my blog, but she criticizes me for never putting pictures of myself on here.
So...................here I am. Ta da.

Alice was right....this is a sweet little spot to take a break. According to Wikipedia, Mettawee River is a river in western Vermont and eastern New York in the United States, passing the town of Granville, New York. The river is particularly good for rapids and kayaking. It ends in Lake Champlain.

Hmm....kayaking.....that is on my list of things to do.

These rapids might be a little troublesome.

Maybe we should paddle this way, when we come.

This covered bridge is made of metal, meant to last.

Hey, Alice.

I am feeling somewhat like this house.......useless.

That's what happens when you go 100 miles an hour on a regular basis. Then when you take some time off, well, it feels like you shouldn't be doing it.
It's a battle I have with myself all the time.

I know, of course, that it is not NORMAL to work all the time, and I am always struggling with it.

Today was good for me. I might just get this right before I die. Well, I guess I would have to do it before, right?
I am going to sew a little.....for fun, JUST FOR FUN.
And then we are going to get ice cream. PISTACHIO.
Happy 4th everyone.
Do what you like...do what you love! You can't go wrong!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the photo of you... You should do so more often! Oh, and pistachio ice cream? Yummers on that. The scenery in your area is calling my name since there are a ton of photo ops when in rural areas.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great price on your lunch... I think Hubby and I spent 3 times that much for lunch at Famous Dave's barbecue yesterday in Richmond, VA.... Highway robbery I tell ya!
Di
I hear you loud and clear and I too am 'working on it'.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great pictures.
You look maavelous. And I love this photo tour, thank you. Upstate New York sure has some beautiful places... God's Country :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to see a picture of the author, nice to meet you Miss Hilary! You gals had some beautiful scenery today and ice cream later, oh my, that's divine! ~Lili
ReplyDeleteYou eastern gals seem to wear similar shoes :>]]
ReplyDeleteA bee-yew-tee-ful part of the world you have there...nice to *see* you!
Oh thank you for the lovely pictures! We had the Mettawee running right through our property and spent many July's there cooling off. It is a lovely area.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the house should still be there. It's where River Road meets 153 (Pawlet VT).located there at the junction facing 153, left is the bridge over the Mettawee (and a very sweet swimming spot it is on the right side of the small falls) Right brings you up a rise and on the left is a small beautiful walled in cemetery. Mountain View I think. The house use to be white with a small red barn.
ReplyDeleteWhy bother being NORMAL? It's boring!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures!!!!! Thanks for sharing. I love the photo of the old house that's all but falling down.
