I can't complain.

First, just a loud thank you to Sharon, over at In Stitches for these wonderful bars of soap. You cannot imagine how great they smell, and I can't wait to use them.

I am trying to slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww it down around the studio. I take my time, and I am making a concerted effort to not make unreasonable demands on myself. I get it. I really do. And I really appreciate all the kind words and encouragement from all of you.

I did a little weaving, some fun stuff. A natural warp, and a huge bin of mixed fabric. It is like a blank canvas to me, and I love it.
I couldn't help but think about gratitude today.
With all the news of the poor, poor people in Haiti, how can you not be grateful for the life you have.
Sure, I have complaints. Doesn't everyone?

OK, my soup got too hot in the microwave, and then when I let it sit for awhile, I waited too long, and it got cold.
The chips were great, but I ate too many of them, and I should have had enough will power to throw them right in the garbage. But I didn't. (they were SO good)
While I was trying to refill the bird feeder, I dropped the whole thing, and lost the top of it in the snow, the part that it hangs from. So now the feeder is out of service until I figure it out.
The squirrels won't leave me alone, they eat more than the birds do. They are so fat, they should be counting points every day.

I have some gorgeous 8/2 cotton for dish towels, but I don't have the energy it takes to figure it out, and put the warp on a loom, so I can weave them.

Yes, my neck hurts, my ear hurts, the medication makes me tired.
It's cold, the sun barely came out all day.
I tried to tie some fringe, but some one was NOT very cooperative. (do you want your tail tied into the fringe???? DO YOU??????)

I took a nap, but the phone woke me up.
I had to stop at the grocery store, and I really didn't feel like it.

Oh, the trials and tribulations.

I can't even think of what the people of Haiti are going through. I hope that everyone in this country sends whatever they can to the rescue efforts.
And I hope that gratitude takes on new meaning to all of us who have so much more.

  1. Yes.. much suffering happening in Haiti. I am thankful for all I have. Really, I am. I hear it on CNN right now as I type this. Time to shut it off for the night as it becomes over-whelming to hear it after a while.

Lovely sky photo.. and WOW is that squirrel fat!

  3. It's ok to feel grumbly about feeling poorly as long as it's tempered with gratitude - as your grumbles certainly are. Go ahead and indulge a bit.

    Lovely photos and wishes.

  4. I feel weak kneed when I see 8/2 cotton in many lovely colors, it is almost like eating candy isn't it. Maybe it is the potential they represent.

I am lifting Haiti up as well.

  5. Hey Hilary... yes each time we think we have it bad, there is someone who has it much worse. Helps to put things into perspective for sure. I pray for the people of Haiti. My gosh, what a tragedy! I think you need to find solace in your weaving and healing for your health in your warps....

  6. Sharon sure is a sweetheart!!!!!!! I agree Hilary, no matter how bad we have it the people in Haiti have it a whole lot worse than us. Makes my heart sick when I see how they are suffering.

You sure do have a well fed squirrel. Nice of him to hold still while you took his picture.

    Keep getting better,

  7. I had to LOL at that squirrel! What a fat little bugger.

I have been feeling a bit blue - after the holidays, cold days, etc. And then I look at the people in Haiti, who just want a roof over their head and some food and water and all of my irritants go out the window. It's only human to feel put out at times, but remembering what we do have works every time for me.

  8. Boy was that ever an interesting perspective. Everyone knows shingles are hell, and you saying you have it good compared to the people in Haiti - made me stop and think twice. Blink, blink.

Oh, and I got the better part of the bargain. You'll use up the soap and I will have that terrific book and your advice forever!

  9. Oh my goodness - that squirrel! How close were you and what kind of zoom did you use? It's absolutely gorgeous!
I love the remark about SOMEONE not being cooperative...
I had the same thoughts last night at work when one coworker alternated between grieving for the Haitian people and complaining about her feet ALL NIGHT LONG!
    Hang in there!
