I don't even GO upstairs. It is way too cold up there.
My friend came over again, these are her Mom's old shirts all cut and sewn. Aren't they awesome?

She was a little tearful, watching them weave up into a rug.
But isn't it a beautiful rug?? Her Mom would be proud.

And here is the rug she made from the jeans and corduroy pants. She hasn't tied the fringe yet, but she couldn't wait to see it!!!

I have spent the last couple of days on a dish towel project. When I say that it was troublesome, you will just have to imagine my cursing under my breath. (and sometimes right out loud)
Anyway, it seemed that I made every mistake I could make, but since my friend was observing, and helping occasionally, it was a good learning experience for her.
The pattern is M's and O's on 6 harnesses. I am getting braver, or crazier.
Some think crazier.
But contrary to popular opinion, I do not need medication.
And/or treatment.
It is a family trait, this endless energy and motivation. Thanks, Dad.
Probably the worst thing about it is that in the morning when my eyes open, my feet hit the floor.
It is what it is.
Where did I hear that???
OK, without further ado, here they are....so far.
Hopefully, I will get 8 towels out of this warp.

Warped and staying warm in NY,
Like your Dad? Are you wearing a black trench coat?? The rug is something else! What a nice way to remember her Mom.
ReplyDeleteAll are lovely... the towels look like they will be a hit and sell well.

Hilary, I just have to tell you how blown away I am with the *reduce/reuse/recycle* of your friend's mom's clothes into these beautiful rugs...it is a profoundly wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteI would give ANYTHING to have something like this of my mom's, from her clothes. It would have been something I would have never thought up at the time. Ahh, hindsight - all those lovely clothes I gave to the Goodwill. This idea really touches me deeply...
What a good friend you are to help make it happen!
If you are like your dad, you better stay outta Home Depot!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the coiled rags.. how artistic!!!
Hmm, Ms and Os really look much better on six harnesses than four. Food for thought. My restless mind is - thanks Mom. But I don't jump outta bed. I lay there for sometimes a half hour and let the juices brew in my head.
ReplyDeleteNew idea - rag rugs as memory. Good one.
I love you close up images of the loom.. just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe "jeans and corduroys" rug is so pretty. I have an idea - I hope you don't think this is tacky - you could actually start a business, making rugs from the clothing of deceased family members. I know I would pay a pretty penny for something that pretty and long-lasting, that would would remind me of my loved ones every day.
