I think it's winter.

This morning, I decided to take a little ride. So I left the loom, and headed out into the cold.
I drove a couple of miles behind the studio. It was cold, brutally cold.

Seems like we were just enjoying a rather warm, uneventful November, and the wind brought all this, with a vengeance. It is 18 degrees here today, but the weatherman says it feels like 6 degrees.

Even though it has seen better days, this is a gorgeous old barn.

I have been thinking again about holding onto anger and resentment, as opposed to letting it go. It is especially difficult, when as a family, you hold on to the resentment together.
Today, I questioned that again.

As I ventured further down the road, I caught sight of this.

blog508

I pulled over, and got out.
I saw him, and he saw me.
blog506
He decided to give me a show.
Can you imagine, I am snapping as fast as my fingers can go.

Don't think for a minute that I knew what I was doing. I was just trying to follow him, and as luck would have it, I had my zoon lens on.

At first I thought maybe I had frightened him, and he was trying to get away.
But then.......

he came back.

blog499

Ah, there's that red tail.

I think someone is having a good time.

I left reluctantly, with my hands about frozen to my camera, and as I drove away, I thought wouldn't it be nice if resentment could glide away so smoothly.
I need to work on that one.

Back at the studio, my hands warmed up, and I took pictures of scarves to put on my web site. Just in time for Christmas!!! Click HERE go check them out.

  1. Hillary, just know that many of us are also in your shoes when it comes to resentment. It's difficult to let something go in the heart when it won't let go of the memories in our heads. Very difficult thing to do.

  2. He was waiting for you so you could put on a show. You caught some fabulous shots there - thanks for sharing them.

Resentment....hmmmm.....hurts the one resenting while the 'offender' goes merrily on their way. Does terrible things to your insides too. Maybe the bird was showing you how to glide right past it, fly right over it......

Beautiful countryside - I will go back to your personal info to remind myself exactly where you are.

    Have a great weekend.

  5. You always have such beautiful photos...and that first picture made this northern-farm-girl-turned-metro-Atlanta-woman a little wistful for the snowy rural scenery!!! Thanks for sharing.

  6. Sure doesn't seem like a coincidence that this beauty showed up while you were looking inside of your own head and heart. Have a look at the symbolism/message believed to be attached to this wonderful creature.

    The photos are fabulous, Hilary

  7. GREAt pictures of the hawk - isn't it wonderful when things just work out and digital allows you to click off 100s of shots!
I've found resentment to be something one must work through and in the end one can let it go - it can take lots of shots at it - but being there and facing it is the only way to make it happen. Just like getting out in the cold and being there for the hawk!

  8. That is an amazing series of photographs. For myself, whenever if feel caught up in life's petty (or even not so petty) resentments, I try to remember that the fact that we even exist is quite a miracle in itself. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes.

    Congratulations on POTW.

  9. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful thing to have happen! Hawk affinity! Bird magic :-)

I loved seeing these pictures so much. Thanks to you and the other Hilary.

I can't wait to show these to my husband, he's always trying to get pictures of the hawks around here, and judging by how often that is a bust, I'm guessing that catching this much hawk action is really quite rare.

    Thank you!

  11. Reading your descriptions and seeing the pictures, accompanied by listening to "Delicate" was, how can I put this plainly, AWESOME.

Thank you for sharing! I loved that. :)

  12. Spectacular photos. Thank you for sharing them--like Hilary, I don't think it was a coincidence either. Frankly, the older I get the less I believe in coincidence. Too much evidence to the contrary!
